rough hay year.

Has it been that way everywhere or just in michigan? I got 15 acres of first (out of 30)and the same field up 3rd without getting rained on. Everything else so far has gotten washed. 4th is on the ground now and it's not looking good again. Ground is very wet and rain is in the forcast. Thinking good quality hay will be worth a bundle this winter.

See the comments below under Dave rrlund haying question. Yup, a tough year to put up hay in Michigan. Weather just not conducive to getting it dry to bale.

They called for a clear week here on Monday so I about 30 acres. Rained to beat all hail this afternoon for about thirty minutes, and the tedder lost a wheel this evening......

Good year here in NNY.first hay I've had rained on last night. Pretty dodgy getting there but a pretty good season all said and done.

MN just west of Minneapolis- we finally finished 1st in Aug. Did 1 field for 2nd in 2nd week Aug, Started more 2nd cut last Friday/Saturday wasn't supposed to rain till Friday- got .15" on Monday AM. Dug the old crimper out of the shed and ran over the swaths to knock the water out and fluff it up, actually started baling Tues some, more Wed, and the rest Thurs. Short days can't hardly bale past 5:30, can't start before 2:30.

Brendons year has gone better than mine, his stuff wasn't broke all the time. I have a good bit down now, had a good frost last night. Hope we can get a couple weeks of decent weather soon.

Put up a lot of round bales again this year. No rain on the first cutting. Not to sure about the second cutting though.
Brent get some modern haying equipment and lower your frustration level. Not new stuff but used in good shape.

We certainly had good weather this year, windows of opportunity with ideal conditions long enough to get it done, I would assume good hay is plentiful around here, compared to the previous year.

Good year here in central NY. The weather guessers seemed to be off a little though - I work 90 miles from home and it's just me and my 13 year old, so I have to time things just about right. Got pretty lucky and didn't get much wet though

Great idea! Why didn't I think of that! Send me a couple bales of money and I'll get right on that....

Worst hay year I can remember UP here. Hardly got 3 days without rain all summer. Had standing water in most of the fields from snow melt in the spring right on through today. Only had about 4 days in the 80's, most of the summer was in the 50's and 60's. Still have standing first cutting hay but its no use trying to make it at this point as there is no way to get anything to dry with only a few hours of dry weather a day (that's only if it doesn't rain) and standing water underneath.

Not sure I have enough hay for the winter so I may be looking for some in a few weeks.
