Broke Another Camera

Is it just me or do any of you guys break your cameras regularly? I get one to last about a year and then drop it or set down with it in my pocket and crack the screen. Tonite, I took a picture of the 1850 and stalk chopper before I went out to mow rye stubble. I came in and my wife had been mowing yard, and as I was getting ready to clean out under the deck, it fell out of my shirt pocket and hit the cement, instant death. Just about the time I get comfortable with one, I break it and the new ones are never the same as the old one, so I have to learn all over. Chris

My wife won't let me take one snowmobiling anymore. I Carry it in my front pocket and every time I crash the camera breaks.

Sorry about your camera Chris. I've been lucky with mine. Dropped it a few times, but always on the grass. I have a little case that fits on my belt, and I think its a lifesaver for it. I've only owned one digital camera, and it's taken over 13,000 pictures. It has to be nearing the end of its life. I hope I can get another one as good as the first one.

We have two digital cameras that have wrist straps and I make it a point to _always_ use the wrist strap. Has saved me from this problem on several occasions.

A large shirt pocket that can be buttoned helps a lot. I carry small cameras in a padded case (a glorified sack with a zipper). It's a little more bulky, but I remember it's there. CaseLogic is one brand I like.

I've been told the best way to stop loosing or breaking pens is to buy a really expensive one. People still seem to break and loose very expensive smart phones though.

When I was doing insurance inspections, (I quit a month ago), I always carried my camera on a lanyard around my neck while I was doing an inspection so both hands would be free to write on a clipboard.

That being said, I had my camera on the end of an 8' camera pole one day taking a photo of a roof. I stepped backwards one step, stepped on some ice, and went on my butt. The camera hit an ice covered sidewalk from a height of about 14", allowing that I'm 6'2" tall.

I thought the camera would be busted all to hell. I picked it up and all that had happened was the battery door popped open. I always carried a backup camera, so as a precaution I switched memory cards and used my backup the rest of the day, but the one that took the fall still worked as usual.

It was a Sam Sung. There was a particular model that was perfect for my purposes. Simple, easy to use with one hand, and dang near indestructible. When I found that model was no longer made, I bought several good used ones on ebay, and rotated using them. Right now, I have four in my desk drawer.

One of the best are the Nikon cool pix cameras. I have a 16mp one and the photos are stunning. I sewed a little flannel pouch for mine and it fits in my pocket just dandy. The pouch keeps the camera clean and it grips the inside of my pocket a little so nothing fals out.

I am on my third one I think, most of mine start having lens issues due to dirt, but all were done when I dropped them hard, I have a case to keep them in most times but dust is in the environment I take pics, I hate learning a new camera controls

I have always tried to carry a camera. Lately I have been buying small, inexpensive digitals. They never last me more than a year or two and I really take care of them. My present camera is a NIKON Colorpix. It started taking blue pictures. The one before was a SONY Cybershot, The screen looks like a TV with no signal and the pictures come out the same. Makes one wonder about the new electronics with screens on new cars.

Was brush hogging with my Gravely two wheeler and sulky. Had the camera in my pocket for some nice shots when I was finished. Yep, that handlebar whipped around and caught the camera in my pocket. Stupid camera still took pictures except they were an overlay of the last pic I took, a broken lens and the pic I was trying to take. The new tech camera put up a good try but in the end...Old tech Gravely won out.

you guys are braver/luckier than me.
My camera and phone stay in the house, or on the TV in the shop with a rag over them (dang paint overspray)
Keys stay in the door when I unlock the shop.
Need the camera, I walk to get it, use it, and walk it back.
Tried pockets, whatever pocket I pick, sooner or later, when working, I will put my full weight against that pocket.
Don't matter where the pocket is....it'll happen.
Broken again, or with keys...broken, and holes in me.......

All I've used the last several years is my phone. They take better quality pictures than my old digital camera did (10 years old by now) and I get a new one every 2 years or so with even better resolution.

Nutty:

Can't remember the name, but it sounds like you need one of those cameras like you take to the Beach that will take pictures "underwater". If it's secure enough to keep out water, then dust is no problem.
