What is hay going for around the country per lb in small sq

(quoted from post at 23:55:31 09/16/14) Last year as three bucks loaded. This year I'm scairt.will trade for chattel.
3 per pound! I think somebody mis-read.

Round bales of good grass hay is selling for $50-75 per ton. So a 1500# bale would be $37.50-56.25 about.

Round bales of good alfalfa is in the $120-150 per ton range.

Those prices are half of last years. You do have to remember that corn is at $115 a ton now and wet gluten feed is at $30 per ton. So even with there not being as much hay the other feed sources are cheaper too.

Just about all feed stuffs are down. Soybean meal is one of the few that is still high priced.

I got 3.75 for 50 lb bales of first cut alfalfa , buyer pick up from field. 4.00 second cut. 3.10 third cut.
2.25 for some beer can hay.

just got 150 bales here small squares, all has to be trucked in, these mountains just wont grow good hay it was 9.00 per bale, delivered and stacked, my back wont do it anymore, well I can, but that many would take me a day I don't have to unload, and id be down for the next 3, id rather let a younger guy do it

(quoted from post at 04:47:58 09/17/14) What is hay going for around the country per lb in small squares, round bales and large squares ?
Most people around me have at least a few hundred head of cattle, so not many small squares around except the hay sellers and they truck most of them away. Rodeo people use a few I guess. No big square balers around. Generally everyone has big round bales and use a bale processor of some brand to hay with (mine is a Haybuster 2620 I bought new years ago), when I buy hay it's usually 1500-1600lb 6' net wrapped bales, that's what the sellers like to haul on trucks. I do about 1400 lb twine for my own, my baler was set at that when I got it and I left it alone. Didn't get net on my first baler years ago, will get it next time if I get tired of this one. Depending which truck/trailer the truckers use, generally around 32 bales a load. As of two weeks ago, locally, it was $90 per ton for "decent" grass. Last year I had several truckloads at $130 delivered price from 70 miles away, but it wasn't very good. Year before that I had some at about $160 delivered. Within a couple years of that I had some at $220. I am late haying now because I had difficulty replacing a tractor, it's still green and pretty decent looking but ripe and the clover is dried up, but it is cutting more than double the amount of each of the last two years. The guys that hayed normally didn't get as much, rain started late, but at least there was some this year. Still a few of the neighbors putting around in the fields yet too. Finding weather to hay has been difficult this year as well. http://www.ams.usda.gov/mnreports/wh_gr310.txt

When I was doing first cutting the feed stores were selling last years second cutting for $8-9 per bale. I did not ask that much. I make folks pick up their own bales. I sold out everything I had in one day. Didn't want to store it, load it, etc. Won't say how much, but I did very well.

Here in Western, Pa, I have seen small 40 lb squares going for
$2.50 to $5.00. 1000 lb, round bales seem to be anywhere between $30 and $50. Big squares and I don't know the weight are at $120 per bale.

I havent kept track of small squares.

Big rounds of grass hay are bringing 80-120/ton.

Here in central MN, grass hay is pretty plentiful this year, but good, dry dairy quality alfalfa is harder to find. Hardly any of that is baled in rounds. Mostly big squares. At the last auction. I heard loads of good alfalfa with lower moisture were still going for well over 200/ton. The higher moisture alfalfa with chemical on it was going just under 200/ton.

I have quite a few big rounds to sell yet, the hay I have sold is OK grass hay, put up dry, but did have about a half inch of rain on it. Ive been selling it for 80/ton.

I have alot of hay down that I cut this weekend, and if the weather holds through Thursday, this will be the best grass hay Ive gotten this year.

Small squares here are running anywhere from 150-225 tonne. Rounds don't do much better than 100-120 tonne. No large square in this immediate area.

Small squares of mixed alfalfa/grass are going for $3-$3.50 per bale, no idea on the weight. A guy was around the area baling up straw, large squares and was paying land owners or the tenants $35/ton.

Small squares are scarce as hen's teeth around here, A neighbor is the only one I know that has a square baler. He gets $6 in the field for good bermuda and has a waiting list. Good tight 4x5 rounds are $25 for mixed grass up to $40 for good bermuda. That's cheap enough, I've got over $20 a bale in fertilizer.

Here in the Klamath Basin, $250 to $300 a ton for small bales. Bought 3 more ton to get buy and paid $270. That's for grass. Alfalfa going for abit more

I know someone local was getting $5 a bale for premium 3rd cutting small squares here not that long ago. Yes, actually getting paid that much.
