what are we looking at here? this was taken several months ago about 40 miles from the farm, in the same county, now we have cougars here I have 4 of them traveling thru this farm on camera, but is this a cougar, or is this a Mexican jaguar? also supposed to range in this area although its about its northern limit

Eric, looks like the cats out of the bag.In my neck of the woods that is a cougar. other areas known as other names.

Been enough sitings in my area that I know they are around. Seen a couple myself, but didn't get them on camara. Funny thing is, people most generally in my area refuse that they exist. Just be cause "they" didn't see one. Thats not how it works. I don't care how much time you spend hunting, you got to be in the right place at the right time to see one of these. They cover alot of ground and mainly at night, and are just not going to be seen much. The fish and game even refuses that they exist in my area. Funny thing is, while they have that view, they say its illegal to kill one. Don't they have to exist before being illegal to kill one. I think they know different, they just want the public to believe they are not around.

that's what I cant decide it has th ebuild of a cougar but also there is what appears to be spots on the cats body its head is turned away so its hard to use that to decide, no reason to shoot it , its in the woods minding its own business

Around here the actual people are pretty sure that they exist, but the game wardens swear they are not this far east. Sometimes when people shoot one and show the game warden they admit that there was one, but that was the only one. Most people don't bother to mention it anymore, after being assured so many times that they are seeing things.

With the spots, I'd say it's a jaguar.

Question: Do mountain lions cover their poop like domestic farm and house cats? I saw evidence of that in the gravel in our driveway about 200 feet from our house a couple of months ago.

I know they're around here, 'cause we saw one a couple of miles from our house a year ago and I've seen track while I was deer hunting.

As long as they go about their business and don't bother anything, I have no problem with them, although I don't go into the timber unarmed any more.

I've never understood people who think they have to kill something just to be killing. I've never shot anything I didn't intend to eat or without other good reason.

I was gonna go bowhunting here in a few days. We definately have them in MO. I may want to check my game cams before I go set in a tree in the dark.

I like to be invited for dinner, but not be the main course.

Do not know what that is, but it would be nice to know what part of the U.S. the pic was taken.
So many 'posts' here about the 'postee's' local area and rarely any ID of where.
Any Michigan members seen the Mi Cougar, which isn't supposed to be here?

this was taken in the Sacramento mountains in central nm, just outside of a town called weed, not much there, but its claim to fame is that "sam" the bartender on gunsmoke is from there, the tail end of the rocky mountains, elevation ranges from 4,000 feet to 12,000 feet

Don't argue with the game wardens. They are doing you a favor, if the big cats don't "exist" they dont need special protections. Once they are officially there, more rules and regulations will be needed...

Your exactly right. Problem is, there is already rules and regulations in place for something that they claim don't exist. Why?? Shouldn't that alone be enough to make it - no rules and regulations nescisary?
