Out for a ride... And more good news

Took the old JD A and Case SC out for a spin yesterday evening after some homework was finished. First time I had both tractors going in a month. Most likely the last time until maybe mid December after this semester is over. Homework is starting to pile up - I better get after it. Just thought I would drop you all a line, and I hope all is well. Enjoy.

Oh, and P.S., the girlfriend (now fiancee) said YES when I proposed to her at the threshing show during the daily parade of power. I'll put in a picture of that too...

Call me old fashioned, but I still like the old "down on one knee" style. Even more fun if in a public place or at an event. Good for you, and I wish you many happy years.

I'm guessing she's already OK with your tractor hobby (or at least, its not a deal-breaker), so that's a significant step.

There were smiles all around. The older women really loved it. Here is another few shots... A series of how it unfolded. Let's see if you can figure out what my plan was.....

Did the tractor really break down or was it just part of the plan? I see your still towing it away.
And conrates to you both :D

I decided to build my own version of an "A" - Unstyled, 3 speed hi/lo, with all electrics. The tractor was in sorry shape internally, and I paid very little for it. I decided to build a 'hybrid'.

Nope. I idled it down all the way and jammed on the brakes to kill it. "Faked breakdown" was my goal. Had her pull the Case around, hooked up the strap and told her I would tow her and the JD out of the parade. As soon as she turned to get on the JD, I dropped to a knee so by the time she turned back around, I was waiting.

The pictures of the two ladies with the cameras are her mother and my mother. I invited several friends and family members, as well as had a 'hidden photographer' to capture the moment - hence the pictures. The parade announcer even had a script to play along with.

I think its good to exhibit individuality and do what one wants as long as it doesn't violate a commandment or a law.
Do the correct critics give you a bad time?

They haven't so much yet. Most of the time, I get guys who try to figure out how in the world it is a 1941 Unstyled A. I try to respond to their questions as openly and as correct as I can. More often than not though, I get the phrase, "JD never built a 1941 Unstyled A.." And My response is, "You are correct. I built it." That usually gets the people who are curious to ask more questions about what I needed to do to convert it.

If I do deal with correct police... I'll just smile and say thanks for stopping by.

Ken:

Congratulations! You got Engaged & the tractors got "hitched" , cute. Gonna have to hang a sign on "the green one" saying "Toad", ahem, 'er, ... I mean "Towed". LOL!

Doc :>)

Well, we know which tractor girlie girl is gonna want, the pretty Orange one. LOL!

Ya gonna give it to her for a Wedding Present? LOL!

:>)

Ah, the old "fake breakdown" trick- that one was used with some success on various Lover's Lanes around the country, but never saw it in a parade.

Think I'll start a new thread on marriage proposals in a few minutes.

AWWWWWWWWWWWWW how nice!!!!! Be happy you two. So cute to see a cute girl tractor driver. You go!!

Ken C.,

Congratulations to you both! Wishes for happily-ever-after... at least most of the time. :)

What a great proposal... brought tears to this ol' gal's eyes.

Congratulations to both of you!
When you posted about doing he deed I was hopin against the naysayers that it would work out for you, just like it did!!!

I'm not gonna show the pics to my wife! My proposal was so lame in comparison. She never lets me forget that I proposed in the A&P parking lot after we'd bought some champagne(for us) and cookie dough mix (for future MIL). I opened up the glove box and asked her to give me a little box that was in there. Popped the question and she said YES! It'll be 32 years the 25th of this month!! Congratulations to the both of you and I hope it lasts a LOOONNNGGG time!!

I got back to late from mowing...you had already given the story away. I had it all figured out except the fake breakdown. I could tell you had a crowd you were playing to. I was trying to figure out if there was a metaphor in the hooking up. That turned out really nice and I think it was great of you to share it. One of the few things that made me smile all day!

Congrats to you. Nice story, and beautiful bride to be.Keep your wheels on the track you have chosen, and keep your bride to be on a high pedistal.
Loren, the Acg.

Congratulations!!!! Glad to see the plan worked. Judging from the one picture of the fiancée on the Case, she had no idea that the breakdown was planned and what was to follow. Beautiful lady who enjoys old tractors... I think you got a keeper!
