OT - Remember the Woodies?

I saw this at the local Rural King yesterday when I stopped to pick up a part for my TRACTOR. I wanted to get some closer pics, but he got away. It was pretty neat work - check out the Chevy bowtie on the tailgate. I have to wonder how the treated lumber will react to the truck body.

Hey thats pretty cool. My 66 GMC has a Hard wood grain floor in the bed of the short bed truck. Back in those years GM had put marine painted wood in the botoom of there truck beds then they painted the bed with the same color of the truck. So I think you would take care of that wood Like I do with my wood in my bed of my G M truck.

Old farmer wanted a station wagon, went to the dealer, only one on the lot was a woodie with fake wood-grain on the side. He didn't like it much, but bought it anyhow. Got home, went out to the shop, and had just finished taking it off when his wife came out. He said, "Well, I dunno- now I'm thinkin' maybe it looked better when it was still in the crate."

As far as the truck above, seems like a lot of work just to make a rig look cheesy.

The '66 Chevy truck I bought new didn't have the wooden floor in the bed painted the same color as the truck.

I dare say there are more than a few fellas around the forums who have forgotten woodies. I mean, it has been a while since they made one.

Bumper is bent, but it is an aftermarket bumper, not a factory GM bumper. Of course, if it were a Ford it would have the OEM Ford bent tailgate!

I first would like to say that GM made great products back in the 60's. Ford made great products back in the 60's. I should know I have restored enough of these fine great Automoblies. The one I do not take a like to is Dodge opp's did I say it. There product needed alot of help back in the 60's. So Yes GM and Ford good taste my type of people.

If this particular Chevy truck is like most, the treated lumber will be the only thing holding it together pretty soon. Remember on a quiet night you can hear a Chevy rust. Don't ask me how I know...

Well when I was growing up the family had about if not a 1946 Ford full wood station wagon (hood fenders, dash and floor excepted). Yes it did as they all did have rotten wood before he traded it in on a '52 Plymouth all steel SW.
