growing Marijuana (almost)

I 've had a lot of hemp growing on my land since I bought it 15 years ago. Little by little I've knocked it down with Grazon. Starting closest to the road and working back. But 1/2 mile long is a long process.
So there is some further back.
Last month I asked the state trapper if he could get the yotes out of here. He drove his truck back there to scout. Darned if he didn't park right beside a big patch of hemp, about 5 feet tall. Now even biologists can't tell hemp from MJ.. The only way to determine which is to cure some and smoke it. That was done here and it is hemp. But with him standing there looking at those plants I quickly said' I got to get around to spraying that hemp. He just nodded. I sprayed it the next day and I'm sure he saw it dying.
It got me to wondering though, what if some of it really is MJ? So I'll get after it hard!

You might put an add on Craigslist for testers to smoke it. I do not think it would be hard to get volunteers.

common hemp is basically the same plant as the one that has the drugs in it. the one they smoke has been hybred-ized to increase the potentcy. water hemp is in the same family, but looks different. cordage hemp is in the same family, and the us government does not distinguish the difference, which is why cordgae hemp is not grown in the u.s.

Around here there are some feilds of wild hemp left over from when it was grown commercially it is hard to erradicate ! Every summer around this time the county sherrif "raids" the same old stands of hemp and tells the people how much drugs they got off the street. but it is all for show I guess it looks on the news though

Industrial Hemp is becoming a hot issue in my state and in Virgina. Some say it will be the crop that will replace tobacco as a cash crop. It has already been legalized to grow in my state and it has thousands of uses. Google industrial hemp and see what you come up with.

It's just my opinion but I think the cops are losing their resolve in making arrests on MJ. Regardless of how you feel about actual MJ versus hemp the younger generation seems bound and determined to make MJ a part of mainstream society. Maybe I am being unfair to MJ but I have seen more people that fit the old "pothead" image of being slow witted and lazy than the people that claim MJ gives them an edge in terms of ambition and productivity. I guess what worries me most is in the past week world leaders are calling for a modification of drug laws which means being lax. A person is kidding themselves if these "leaders" want to do this for the betterment of humanity versus throwing in the towel because they know the economy is only to get worse as we go into the future. A peaceful (stoned) mass (population) is a mass not prone to revolution.

You don't get by having MJ in nebraska. Can't have wild MJ on your property. I read the court news each week in the newspaper. The cops catch about four people a week for having MJ in their cars.

Interesting. About the only time the cops here will bother a landowner is if the landowner vehemently objects to the cops checking out an MJ sighting. At that point the cops will assume the landowner has some involvement in growing it. Cops routinely find MJ via helicopter, notify the landowner of the sighting, and usually go in to remove MJ with the landowner's cooperation and nothing further comes of it.

Around 25 years ago a Microeconomics professor I had, who came from Bangladesh, told the class that marijuana was sold in his country in government operated stores. I asked what his theory was on that and he said..keep the population stoned, and they won't know or care, what really goes on in the government.

Acres of cannabis in NE probably number in the thousands, anybody who does not take good care of their pasture has it. My place had a mess of it when I got here, might have an acre still, probably 50 yards of it on one side of the driveway, and the city cop that lives across the road from me probably has more in his pasture than I do! Cops could not care less, unless you cultivate or harvest it. Around here we have this thing called methamphetamine to keep the cops busy.

If he thought he knew what he was looking at, he was probably waiting for you to leave so he could take a bunch home with him.

The difference between the stuff they smoke and the ditch weed is the THC content. If you plant some bred for smoking in a open area like you describe with wild plants growing around it the THC content is reduced to almost zilch. It as to do with how the plant reproduces, the female plant excretes a sticky substance containing high amounts of THC to "catch" pollen from the male plants. The longer the female plant goes without being pollinated the more sticky substance it produces to try and "catch" pollen to reproduce. The places that grow the smoking kind don't have any male plants near the females to prevent pollination. Your farm is probably loaded with male plants, there by making the all the females useless for smoking.

Don't know what the difference is but Sunn Hemp seed is commonly sold and grown in the Southern US.Hopefully Industrial Hemp will be grown again in the USA as the hysteria about Pot settles down.

About 35 years ago I went on a service call to get a car started. It was the older brother of a kid I went to school with, had met him a few times, didn't really know him.

For whatever reason he invited me to go behind the house with him, opened the gate to the privacy fence, there was a huge field of pot he was growing! This was a cultivated, manicured, for profit business him and his half brother were running.

I just kinda looked at it and complimented them for their good work, got out of there fast!

The very next day I found out someone came in while they were gone and stole all of it! Had to have taken them a long tome and several trucks, this was a large operation!

SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF ME! I just knew they thought I had something to do with it! Never heard any more of it, didn't ask, didn't tell, just wished I had never seen it!

Here they (cops) just appear out of nowhere, overfly with state police helicopter, swoop in and harvest whatever they find. Have cops from throughout the area, several agencies - some may be out of their jurisdiction. No contact with land owners, just show up and help themselves. A few years ago they had some national guard choppers with army guys repelling off ropes into corn fields. Neighbor and I sat in lawn chairs in his front yard and got quite an afternoon"s entertainment. Lately, just been the state police chopper and cars/trucks. Very predictable, always last week in August. Didn"t get any thing off my place, but went over in neighbor"s corn field.

Understand they identify stuff by using night vision goggles - apparently shows up very bright. Would be fun to find some paint that does the same thing, spray some left over Christmas trees and leave them in strategic places. Watch the cops fume!

Down here in Florida all the pot growers have moved inside. They will rent a house in a nice area and convert it into a grow house. They usually get caught by the electric company's turning them in for havin such a huge bill running all the grow lights. Some of them have started jumping the meters out for all but a few days a month so the bill is not so high. I haven't heard of anyone growing pot out in the open around here in over 20 years. If you see a plant here that looks like Hemp you can just about bet it is not it's the real thing

One year the 'Law' showed up my Dad's farm, in southern Mi. Across the road and 'way back'..but he could see the vehicles. They eventually came to his door and explained what they found. His response was, "Well there goes Christmas"!! really, he did. They laughed.

Why don't the growers put in a generator with a big muffler or mufflers vented to the outside? Some old bootleggers near here would need to pump water to their still and would have a pump with a car muffler buried in the ground. I'm told the only sound was the valves clicking.

I have heard of the pot growers being tripped up by large water bills. Don't know the solution for that unless they get a house with a well.

Its been said already, there is THC laden trichrome (clear sticky substance, million images on the web) on un-pollinated female plants, so when those flower buds are dried down, then smoked, you get the obvious result to the equation LOL !

Interestingly, one part of the THC, that can be derived from marijuana is not intoxicating, but very effective in treating seizures, been several articles on parents desperate for it, having a child whose life is at risk with seizures.

Ironic you posted this, in the last 2 hours or so, NYSP aviation just searched the entire vicinity for marijuana, for well over an hour flight time, they were below the FAA 500' altitude, when referenced against the 162 foot tower nearby, and with the wind and change of direction, the rotor wash was really loud, it was over all the houses, mine included a few times, + all of our land, and all the ag land adjacent, the residential neighborhoods, checking backyards I am sure, all with an active flight pattern above in use, as the wind is from the northwest today, that usually means they come in to land this way.

About 7 years ago, I was sitting in the house and heard the 'thump' 'thump' of a 'copter.

I have a mobile home park on my farm that I rent out.

In one of these homes was a 16 y/o boy that just wanted someone to talk to. He would come up and sit around to just talk or help out if I had something to do. Good kid.

Wherever he went he always ran. Said when he was old enough he wanted to join the Marines. I called him Forrest Gump.

Anyway, so I hear the thumping of the helicopter and walk out to see what is going on.

I watch this 'copter keep going up and down into the tree line on a ridge behind the mobile home park.

Suddenly, I see Forrest Gump open the door of the mobile home and start running towards the blacktop road, about 1/4 mile away.

The copter tilt it's rotor and follows him down the dirt road. About a few seconds later a Black Crown Victoria, with tinted windows, comes charging up the road towards Gump. The Crown Vic comes to a stop and out jumps to men with guns drawn, yelling for Gump to stop. Gump stops and puts his hands up.

Next, Gump is splayed across the front hood of the Vic while the cops search him. All the while the copter is just hover over the scene.

Now, the drama queens, Mother and 18 y/o daughte,r come running out of the mobile home waving their arms and screaming. Cops pull their weapons agin and tell them to return to their home. This goes on for about 5 minutes...finally they return to the home.

So I figured by this time I better go down and see what was going on.

I approached the cops with my hands out and told them I owned the property. They finished questioning the boy and sent him into the home with other police inside talking to the parents.

In between all this, a Chevy 2500 P/U with a full load of guys dressed in camo filling the bed of the P/U dismounted and started climbing the hills.

While I was standing there talking to the trooper a radio call came in and said they had found MJ. He turned to me and said "There is MJ growing up there. Do you mind if we cut it down?"

What the heck? Was I supposed to say 'Naw, just leave it'.

Troopers filled up the bed of the P/U with MJ and left.

Anyway, Gump was just running to go get the mail out of the mailbox at the end of the road.

Bad timing to say the least.

When I was a kid it grew wild in several spots in one pasture. It would be taller than me and the cab of the tractor. I would mow it off and the stump would be a couple inches across. The stink of it being mowed is very recognizable. I can still smell that awfull stuff on a hot summer afternoon. All of my city friends thought I was crazy. They didn't understand how the wild stuff works.

It seems a couple times a year I see the drug task force helicopters flying around the area searching for weed. I wonder how much of it they actually find and then if its the real stuff or "ditch weed".

If it was me I would collect as many seeds as possible and secretly plant them in city landscape areas and flower beds etc. In reality I would probably get busted carrying around the seeds with no legitimate explanation as to why I have them

Are you sure it is hemp? Or is it giant ragweed (horseweed)? This year seems to be a very good year for giant ragweed. I see it growing abundantly in areas where I almost never saw it before.

Kid running our old place back east stepped out of a corn field and into the barrel of an AR15, they were back in on some property a few miles away cutting a bunch out (and it does grow wild there), and saw his truck on the side of the road and waited on him.

I hate the stuff. Makes me itch if I drive the 4-wheeler through it. Get some that got good water and fertilizer on the edge of a pivot, and it'll make me sick when I brush hog it. I put several tanks a year through the spot sprayer trying to get rid of it. If there was a legal use for it, we could have probably had record profits last year. Wasn't near as bad this year, but bad enough.

I spent the rest of that day and all of the night searchin for my brother Bill, found him the next morning naked as a jaybird singin on top of the windmill :)

A few years ago a state detective and a landowner came into the local store and approached myself and some others about some plants growing on the landowner and up to our shop. Said we had marijuana growing everywhere. Had sacks full and showed them about. I advised detective he was making fool of himself as said plant was swampweed that has yellow flower in june and not marijuana. They did not believe me but found out later. I do not believe that hemp itself grows wild but I am open to proof.
