Paint for steel quonset type building?

Has anyone had success with a thick paint on good galvanized metal building of this type for rain sealing and/or some insulation. I have priced foam coating and it is out of my reach. Did you paint inside or outside. Thanks for your time replying.

If you want to seal against rain I would paint it with a good fibered aluminum roof paint.

I suppose that a coating of that stuff will stop a few leaks for awhile and it will make you feel better for awhile, but covering that rust will greatly accelerate the rust because it will never dry out and will keep eating away at your building 24-7.

Of coarse you wire brush the rust first. Thought
that was a given, guess not. Then you sweep it and
then paint . The rust is dead at that point and the
paint protects it . Have done many metal roofs that
way and they last for years.Most of the roofs I
paint only need painted once ever 8-10 years. Do not
use a cheap paint. And brush it on , not sprayed .

how dead the rust is comes up frequently on the paint forum. most that do any amount of body work agree that you need to acid wash before priming to kill the rust.

Wire brush then fill a spray bottle with
phosphoric acid and spray the area. You can
paint right over the residue that's left, or
just hit it again quickly with the wire brush
if it's thick.

You can buy acid at a home depot for about 15
dollars. I think it's called "prep and etch"
something like that.

A gallon goes a long way - so it's cheap
insurance against the rust coming back.
