Finding a used car trunk lid of a certain color

Good morning!

I am in the process of repairing a 1995 Toyota Tercel. I need to replace the trunk lid due to damage. How likely is it to find a car body part of the correct color by going to a pick-n-pull type place? I don't want to paint if I don't have to, the car is going to be sold. I am between Utica and Albany, NY; does anyone know any good places? I've dealt with Tolpa's in Remsen before.

To keep this tractor-related, I am finishing up my second cutting with a Ford 2910 and a Hesston 130-90.

Thanks, all.

I believe even the Pick&Pull junk yards have computerized inventory. Call and ask them if they have it.

Chances are pretty slim, particularly since it's a Toyota.

In a body shop once, I needed a driver's outside door handle for a particular model of Toyota. For that exact year and model, there was a choice of four different handles. Don't ask me why.

You might get lucky, but finding one in usable condition with that exact paint code could consume a lot of time.

Now someone will probably prove me wrong.

These places you have been to are any of them hooked up with other yards that may have one. We have several around here that you can tell them what your looking for and they will find it or do there best to find it.

You are looking for a 20 year old trunk lid. You might find one at a scrap yard but I betting a lot of those get crushed as soon as they come in.

Could you paint it with dupli color spray paint? They offer a ton of colors to match factory paint, and its cheap and easy. I've used it on some things that weren't worth investing a lot in and it turned out pretty good.

Just Checked Carparts .com and the have around 750 listed in areas all over the USA, some listed with color, some not and priced anyware from $29 to $300 for a trunk lid. So evidently there are some out there.

Wow 39 GPM as you say. I am glad I don't have anything that uses that much. I would like to get 39 MPG. Sorry had to do it.

I would get with your closest local salvage yard (one that does on-line sales). If they don't have one they will likely be linked on-line to other salvage yards. They will have a better idea of how to find the cheapest one and the closest one than you or me.

Thats interesting I read it and it went unnoticed until I read your post. Saw something not to long ago about Brain AutoCorrect.

There are many places that still have 20-year-old cars running around. I have a 21 year-old Ford that I still drive. My other car is only 14. Both paid for, both run good, and both reliable - so far. Several U-pull-it yards around here, and I have had good luck finding color matched parts. The bonus is that even the level of fade matches in most cases!

I would not spend too much time trying to find one in color. Chances are it won't match anyway due to variations at the factory and different sun exposure. It will look the same until bolted on, then it sticks out like a sore thumb. Been there, done that.
