Can anyone tell me what this small pump is for to
the right of the distributor. I believe that the
tractor is a ford 1958 851 powermaster. The pump
wasn't hooked up to anything.

It is a fuel pump. Not used in ag applications. Industrial/power units used them. I have diesel one with cover on it in place of pump.

maybe? but i thought they were all gravity feed. I can find no info online about a fuel pump. Nothing in the shop manual or parts catalog about a fuel pump

I had a Sullivan air compressor with that engine in it (Ford Industrial). It had a fuel pump, as the fuel tank was lower than the carb. Tractor in photo probably had an engine replacement in years gone by.

I'm guessing the tractor has been repowered with an industrial engine. Rather than make or buy a block-off plate, they just left the old fuel pump in place.

Thanks for all the help. I think all of you're right. I did a search on the block numbers and it came back as a 1954. which doesn't match the 1958 serial number.
