While I was at the Rock River show I was asked about the value of a full size steam traction engine. I was thinking some one told me years ago that your talking about $75-100K for a good restored one. Would this be in the ball park or not???

I was happy to see that several of the steam engines at the show where owned by younger fellows.

Even better was the fact that several women where driving and helping on them. I took a picture of a girl and boy driving a smaller one. Neither of them could have been 18 or so. Can't find the picture. I must have deleted it when I cleaned out my camera.

OK I will admit I "looked" harder at the pretty young girl. LOL

If they have boiler static credentials and operate, they can top 150,000. There are certainly no more of them being made at full size. opinion, Jim

And to think one day gasoline and LP powered tractors will be an oddity just like steam power is.

Worth every bit of that. probly on the low end. most of these things were scrapped. very few were used much past world war 2. alot of them that were un-used were probly scrapped in that era too. I don't think you can really even find a fixer upper one very easy.

When I was a kid in Palmer Texas. There was a steam tractor in a barn outside of town. Used to sit on it and dream about it being in operation. Went in the Navy and life went on. Never knew what happened to it. But it was priceless to me.With all the time I operated it.

At a local steam show they were hydrostaticly testing the boiler on a case last year. He had completely rebuilt the boiler. He stated he had nearly 40K in just the boiler rebuild and he had done a good part of the work himself.
