Service At Lowes

Well everyone complains when they get lousy service somewhere so I'll have to compliment the store when I get great service.Today I went over to Lowes to pickup 10 80lb bags of Sacrete walked in went to get a dolly and a young man working there in his 20's looked like ask me what I needed I told him he took the cart back to the Sacrete and loaded the 10 bags and after I paid for them came out with me to the truck and help load them.So I guess there are young folks that don't mind doing a a good job.

Sometimes it happens! I was at Lowes in Burleson Tx. last week.

I had to get a door lock set for the church, and a replacement part for a door at my house. I had found the items I needed and was walking toward the checkout when I heard "Sir, sir..." behind me. The employee in the hardware dept had seen what I picked out, thinking both items were for the same door, he was making sure I had the right parts!

Thought that was mighty thoughtful of him!

The loading I believe is a holiday weekend thing. I had the exact same thing happen when buying deck boards to redo the deck. Fella about 20 helped pick out every board, about 60 total. Then he and another guy loaded them in the PU while I did some more shopping. Lowes is our closest HW store. They have been really good about service and have made money from me for it.

Menard's on the other hand. Went there twice to price pole buildings this past week. Both times the service counter shut be down because they were too busy to help. Use the kiosk I was told. I came home and e-mailed the main office and told them. This building specs out over $40K and you just lost the sale.

LOWE"S have improved here in Springfield, Ohio. Years ago when they first opened they were not so good. The joke among me and my friends were if clerk sensed you were going to ask for help, they looked away and acted busy.

Case in point, picked out some long boards. They needed cut in two for job and also so I could haul them. Waited at the saw and several clerks turned away when they saw I needed help. Finally I caught a clerks eye and acted like I was going to turn on saw. He rushed over and said "customers can"t use saw for safety reasons". I said thanks while he cut them for me !

They now do much better and I enjoy going there.

I went to the local lowes folks willing to help every were till I needed help... No help to be found must have hit it when all the help took a break...

I think they have a floating time line on there breaks and it floats around the time I would like a little help... I normally see 15 are so floaters are NONE...

I would like to see there break table in the middle of the store instead of out back somewhere were I am not allowed...

I"m on the outskirts of Minneapolis We have a Home Depot and Lowes and a Menards all within 2-3 miles of one another. My first choice is Home Depot where you can actually talk with someone quite knowledgeable. Next is Lowes...just okay. Finally Menards. Years ago while a salesman tried to sell to
Menards corporate. Not sucessfully--an old timer told me.."No price is too low for John Menard" He was right!

A few weeks ago Lowes was running an ad on national TV advising all Hunter ceiling fans were on sale, 20% off. It did not ring up at the sale price and some sort of mid-level manager said their store already had their sale.
I sent an email to Lowes Corporate site, the store manager called me the next day advising I could buy all I wanted at 20% off.
I thought they were prompt and professional at resolving the issue.

No Lowe's anywhere near me. Got Menards about 35 miles south and Home Depot about 25 miles west. I'll go to Home Depot. The Menards near me is a joke and even the department managers are clueless. Some times in Home Depot getting ask 20 times if I need help is a pain, but I'd rather be asked 20 and not need help than to need help and not have it.

Home Depot is my first choice, Lowes is the second,if I need groceries I go to one of the County Markets (regional chain)in my area. Menard's is just a pia to shop in, I have never (in the Quincy IL store)found help or found what I needed. But they have a great rebate program(sarcasm)as long as you spend it at their store.

I"m in one or the other 5 days a week.
Of the 3 Home Depot is by far the best.
Lowes is ok.
You can go in there and get good service or bad at any of all of them.
But Menards consistently Sucks - on quality of product, on all their stupid gimmicky rebates, on clueless employees, on running the gauntlet when you have to drive into the yard and get searched on your way out, on suspicious managers, on crabby return persons and on your entire bad shopping experience.

I shop at local owned lumber yards and hardware stores first. always get great service. price typically same as box stores, but not always the selection. I feel if I don't help support local owned stores, soon I may not have a choice other than the big box stores.

I go to Lowe's first, unless I want to make a barrel. Then I go to Home Depot. If I want things to fall apart easily, I shop Menards. I rarely venture into the latter two stores.

He won't last long there. They can't have somebody like that making everybody else look bad.

On treated lumber I have a very large local supplier near me that also treats the lumber they're higher than Lowes or HD and I have pay extra
to 'pick thru' the pile to get what I want then if you don't pay extra all thats left is the rejects from people that do pay extra. At Lowes and HD I can pick what I want from any stack.

Needed a inside corner for vinyl siding friday stopped at the first store that happened to be Menardes . Price was $25 , thought that was high so run on down to Lowes . Samething was $10 . At Menareds the guy helping me took me out in the big barn out in the yard and told me all the sidding is over there and he had to go back in and help a customer , it was pretty hot out !! That was in Richmond IN.

Went to the Lowes in Ogdensburg NY yesterday and bought one of those metal sheds in a box for oldest girls wood pellet storage. Had to move 4 sheets of 3/4" pressure treated plywood to get tot he stuff that wasn't damaged and load the good stuff on cart. other than that we got good service and the workers loaded everything in my pickup, which is good because I would have been a long time doing it myself!

Is Rosa office supply still in Richmond? I may not have the spelling correct, it been 40 years.

My exsperiance was much different. Lows was limited on products and the help was marginal. Back when they close a lot of stores they lost the ones reasonably near me (no great loss) They seem to be a take off on HD (and a poor one at that) We do not have Menards.

oldtanker,
Reading all the post and yours, makes me wonder
why things are different where I live.

I have good luck doing business at Menards, 3.5
miles away. Go there because it close. Go there
multiple times a week. I have no issues. There
are usually 3-5 people working in each
department. They are very helpful. They even have
girls working in all departments. I ask them
where something is and they point to it because
they also stock the shelfs. Lucky to find one
person at Lowes. Menards have many check out
lanes. Lucky to find 2 at lowes.

That said, I have no complaints about either
really, except slow at Lowes and 15 miles away.
But sometimes things at lowes is cheaper,
sometimes menards is cheaper.

I do all my appliance business at Lowes. They
have free delivery. So when a tenant needs a new
refrig, lowes delivers, removes old one, it's
free and I do nothing.

On the other hand, if you know how work the
system, Menards will deliver large items for free
too. A few years ago I added a 26x26 room on. The
boys in the contractor's dept, old friends, put
together the package I needed. Another friend, my
contractor, has a menards contractor's credit
card. I put $1 of my order on contractor card and
the rest I paid for. I got free delivery on the
entire building package. That was priceless.

My menards is the #4 or #5 largest sales store
menards has. The people there I've known when
they were kids. Some have worked there since the
store opens. There isn't a department in the
store that I don't know at least one people
there. There is a girl in mill work that knows
everything there is to know about doors and
windows. Those people treat me very well, very
helpful. Only problem, they like to talk to much,
too friendly when I'm in a hurry, but it's always
a plesant experience to see a smilie face.

It seems like when I go to lowes, I see a new
face. That said, I don't go to Menards and Lowes
to pick their brains and find out how to do a
job. I just want to get the materials and be gone
quickly.

If I need a load of lumber to build something, I
like being able to drive in Menard's yard and
have it loaded on trailer. Lowes you have to
wheel it out the door on a cart, real deal
breaker for me.

I still shop at both places, I don't go there for
information. Each place has some things that are
better quality or better bargins. Lowes carries
my favorite dewalt tools.

I don't have an issue with menards rebates
either. If they want to give me a full rebate on
items I buy, I'll pick them up, fill out the
rebate and get my money back in 4-6 weeks. I
don't see the big deal. Many of the free after
rebate items I pick up are Christmas stocking
stuffers. Who doesn't like free tools at
Christmas?

That is sure a contrast to Home Depot where it's hard to get to the cement for employees standing around yacking and then watch you load the cement.

About five years ago, James had not moved to the farm full time and we were only here on weekends.

One Sunday, we discovered the frig had quit. I called Home Depot and told them the frig had quit, that we were there only on weekends and if we bought a frig today, could it be delivered today. In a nutshell, Home Depot"s response was "sorry, Charlie".

I called Lowe"s next and told them the same thing. We were pretty much in a bind and needed to buy a frig and get it delivered today. The lady said their deliveries were pretty full, but asked me if I would hold while she tracked down a manager. When she got back on the phone, she said the manager had approved an override and they would deliver today.

We went to Lowe"s asked for that lady and bought a frig. She said the delivery truck had arrived, would load the frig and be right out to our place.

We headed home and I started cleaning out the old frig. The delivery truck got them before I got the old frig cleaned out.

The two guys unpacked and installed the new frig and took the old frig away.

Since then we have made Lowe"s our first choice for supplies, etc.

Dont know George , I dont live there , Just run up there when we have alot of shopping to do . I live about 30 mile south . About the same distance to Ciny but Richmond has everything a guy needs and a smaller crowd .

That is exactly what my son does for Lowes. He has been there 6 years the last three in the contractor department stocking, unloading and helping customers. They treat him well and he works very hard, it drives him nuts when they hire someone new and all they do is hide from doing work, but those types don"t last long. They are sent on their way and are replaced. Every once in while they do get somebody who shares the work ethic he has.

I've had good service in that respect from both Lowes and Home Depot generally. Once in a while I'll get a shiftless/crackhead type, but not very often.

I don't get to the big city much, get my stuff at a local hardware/building supply store or a Valu.
Both places good, they do the carrying-loading.
When I have to go to the big stores, I get lost... (hick).
So, now, I know what I need, and just stop at the service desk on the way in.
Being pleasant of course, I say, "I need 20 bags of concrete please, Pay here? Where do I back my truck up to?"
Never any question that I expect them to get it and load it....nicely of course.
Works

In my area, we have had a Lowes for many years. I made a few trips to HD about 70 miles away. Then about 8 years ago, we got a HD.
I always went to HD first because it was less crowded and about 1/2 mile closer to me--LOL.
Then about 3 or 4 years ago, HD became supportive of a lifestyle that I am not in agreement with and they openly promoted it.
Lowes, and other businesses have stayed neutral on the subject and it is my personal belief that it should be that way.
I have not been in HD since but occasionally will be told a product is cheaper at HD and Lowes has always matched their price.
Lowes has done things for me that are unbelievable. I have returned items for an exchange or refund, without receipt, and they even looked up my purchase and verified it was close to the date of purchase I gave them!

We have a Lowes and Menards about 15 miles away and they set side by side. Not really much differance between the two of them. They have some good help and some of the help they must have been scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I'm used to McCook cashiers. Go to North Platte and they aren't very friendly. But the people at Menard's seem to at least want to help. Except the cashiers. Not a good place to go with cash in your pocket.

Haven't dealt with Lowe's in a long time. Orshlen's seems like their shelves have less on them every time I'm there. I think they had a half dozen power tools on the rack yesterday. They've got room for several dozen.

I go to Lord's in Indianola. There isn't much they don't have. And a bell on the door, you usually don't get too far before they ask what you're looking for and take you to it.

Something that does help if you're a "regular" at any store is tipping the yard monkeys that bull all your cement and lumber and whatnot into the truck. I used to work at a lumber yard as a yard monkey and it was always a surprise to get a tip. Those who were regular tippers, and it was never more than a couple bucks, always got a little extra effort. They were few and far between. To a guy making min. wage a buck or 2 helps.
