JD 2010 front steering, course or fine thread

I am replacing one of the steering ball joints under my JD 2010 gas (wide front). I took off the center pivot bracket and found a 5/8" fine thread bolt and a 5/8" course thread bolt. Both have goofed up threads. I have a 5/8" course thread tap which I tried to hand run up in the holes. It did not start easy. Then I hand run a 5/8" fine thread bolt with good threads, which started much easier, although not more than 3 turns. Question, are the original threads fine or course thread?

I just checked JD's exploded part's diagrams. Apparently, there are several versions. The pivot bracket underneath (called 'Arm') is the version with 3 holes and 5/8" cap screws. Does not indicate thread type.

If you're referring to bolts(parts key 29) here's the spec's

thanks very much, Fine thread. I just checked one
of the other screw holes and a fine thread went
right in, so I'm off to buy 3 screws and a fine
thread tap. Good deal.

You need to look real close, as the two different part numbers TxJim posted, one is course thread and one is fine thread. So TXjim so are the part numbers for key # 29 and 26 ?? IF they are it looks like you nhave one of each thread.

Just a general rule of thumb. Most cast steel or iron casting have course threads. You rarely see fine threads in a casting. In steel machined pieces then you will find fine threads.

Aren't most frt wheel hubs classified as cast steel or iron castings that have fine thread studs?

I ran a fine thread screw up in all of them. One was tough as the screw threads that came out were goofed up. My next problem is I only have 3" fine thread screws but the hardware store is closed today. so, I am cutting them down and packing down farther with washers. A 1 hour job is now into it's 4th hour.

If you had come down the road a few miles, I
have taps ,dies and bolts , and I was here all
day .

Tx Jim your right on wheel hubs but think about the big castings like transmissions. They rarely have anything but coarse threaded bolts in them.

It really surprised me that the front end bolts where fine threaded. All of the ones I have worked on have been coarse threaded as I remember.

I agree that clutch housing & trans case bolts I've been acquainted with were coarse threads. I've also helicoiled a few 10,20 & 30 series RC tractor side frame bolt holes and they were coarse thread. As I've stated in the past I just like to see information posted on these tractor forums as "correct as possible".
