I need to buy tires for the wife's
Ford Edge. Anybody have a good experience with any particular name brand tire? What should I stay away from. Thanks Stan

After many years of trying different things with tires, my vehicles are shod with Michelin. I typically get more miles than what they are rated for. The math works out that they are cheaper per mile than the cheapest Fail-Mart tires.

B.F. Goodrich too are reliable and will at least make their rated mileage, in my experience.

It depends on where you live to me.. Snow country? Cost?
Michelin MTX first choice
Cooper Discovery AT 3 second choice
Hercules third choice (I think made by cooper but tread depth is less that's way less money)

I have had good luck with all three the Michelin being the most money, but last the longest... They are on a gravity box now...

The tires I listed are more of a all terrain style not highway...

Michelins,, try them and you will see the difference, Smoooooth and quiet and wear forever, after hearing this for years I finally broke down and bought a set, made a believer out of me!!

Depending on where you live, a touring tread will give the smoothest, quietest ride. After years of listening to humming all season tires I've got touring tires on most of my cars (me, wife, kids). They are quiet but not "all season". I'm in mich. and have no problem with traction so far. A lot of mine are Uniroyals, but I do have one bad one now.

The only problem I had with the Michelin harmony was they were so hard my wife's car was terrible in the winter. Once those were replaced with Cooper lifeliner 2's it handled really nice in the snow and ice. I know there is no substitute for snow tires but most of the time our roads are plowed very clean.

I had a dealer years ago tell me to give Cooper tires a try. If they have the size I'am looking for thats all I use now.

Michelin"s + Walmart + Road Hazard Warranty!!!
Road trip east last month, sliced up a sidewall in Hurricane WVA., wherever that is ..... caxnnot be repaired.... only 1300 miles on brand new tires, found their Walmart, nice VERY NICE crew gave us a brand new tire, installed it, sent us on our way. Wow.

Michelin+ Tire Barn + Road Hazard Warranty+ free life time rotation and balancing.

I was once a walmart/sams person until I discovered Tire Barn Hand torques lug nuts. Walmart and sams stripped too many studs and said it was my fault.

I purchased a new GMC work truck in 2007. It came with General tires. It took me 300 miles to decide my back didn't like the generals. It took another 300 miles for tire barn to get me a set of Michlins in because in 2007 GMC went to a bigger tire. I made someone on craigslist a very good deal selling my General tires with 600 miles on them.

Nothing in my opinion rides like a general. Goodyears are good tires too. I still have the OEM goodyears on my 2005 Buick, which has less than 50K. I have over 60K on michlins, should last another 20K before I get new ones.

My first choice is Michelins and next to that would be Goodrich. Ford Quick Lane advertises that they will meet the price of the competition and they do sell Michelins.

Coopers are good for the money. If you are in snow counrty and decide on Michelins or Goodyear. I would suggest you stay away from their hard compound tires. They are as slippery as riding on greased glass in the winter. Cooper makes some very good tires for winter driving.

My sons truck has the new Firestone Destination LE2, not the old LE. Made a new truck out of it, but they only have about 7000 miles on them, so I cant speak for tire wear yet. My wifes Lacrosse has the Uniroyal Tiger Paw Touring, very comfortable ride, but a little noisy. We had these on our old minivan and they wore very well, had like 60000 on them with decent wear, but one ply separated. We not longer have it, but the Enclave we have now has the 2 factory Michelins on the back, 2 new ones on the front. I cant recall the brand, but the rears will need to be replaced soon, so Im holding out as long as I can to change all 4. The Enclave only has 25000 on it. My bosses truck has gone through 3 sets of Michelin KTXs, he has just over 100000 on it, and has the same Bridgestone I have on my truck now, Dueler AT. Ill probably go with the Dueler HL on the Enclave. I will not buy another set of Michelins.

No advice here. I've never owned an Edge so I can't give advice on what tires work best on an Edge. I own Chevy, Dodge, Toyota, all with different weights, steering ergonomics and driving characteristics. Jim

I got a set of Michelins from Sam's when I was on a road trip. One of them was defective. WalMart would not honor the warrantee and neither would a Michelin dealer. It seems this model tire was for Sam's only. Plus I would have to go to the store that sold it. No more Michelins for me. I got Uniroyal and just as happy.

TireRack has a very good rating system for their tires, it will likely be much more usefull than asking a couple dozen people on a tractor forum. Not saying not to ask here, gathering data is good but dont ignore a resource like TireRack. You dont even have to buy from them if you dont want to, its free info to use as you see fit.

I like Coopers. Pep Boys' Futura tires are made by Cooper.
I put a set of Cooper Discoverer blems (they were labeled "wintercat") on my truck for $120 each mounted and balanced in 2010.

We're having good luck with Capitol brand chinese tires on an F150 at work.

Just stay way from Goodyear Wrangler Radials if puncture resistance is of any concern. They're about as thick as a go-cart tire and won't hold a plug.

Just put new Falkens on wifes Edge before a trip. Sort of impulse buy for that brand after price comparing at 3 different tire stores. I liked the looks and they were quiet on the trip plus I got all four for under $500 out the door with free rotation and road hazard.

37 chief, I bought a 2011 Ford Edge in January of 2012, it had 18K on it W/ Michelens (ms) 18 in tires on it. I drive on average 250 miles/day/4 day week........Fast forward 2+ in yrs in June, I pushed these tires to 123K I could have gotten another 5 to 10K miles if I really wanted to see how far they could go.......
So Go back with the Factory Michilens!!!! I Did and have No regrets reasonable price Our Ford Dealers Here in Texas will Matche or Beat the major Discount Houses Tire changes, but I think the liifetime road hazard is worth it ....to me considering how many miles I drive day/week/month/yr!!!!!
Hope this helps!!

I"m on my 4th set of Goodyear Wranglers (3 on the F-150 & 1 on the Lincoln MKX)and have had outstanding performance from all of them. The truck has gotten 80-90 thousand miles from each set (much of it on gravel roads) and the Wranglers on the Lincoln replaced the factory Continentals at 30xxx miles.
I had a puncture one time on the truck and the tire repair guy wouldn"t believe those tires had 75,000 miles on them. The repair worked and held to the end.
I have seen all of the knocks on Wranglers but for me, they have performed very well.

As my family rides n those four little patches of rubber touching the road. I don't particularly care what the tires cost. Summer tires are chosen by the shortest wet stopping distance. Winter tires are chosen by the shortest snow and ice stopping distance.

If you have ever owned a set up Michelens tires you will never go back to the others.
I have two on the back of my Saab Sports car with around 300 miles on them and they look like new bought them in 1971.

Stay away from discount tire.Bought two from them. Both blew out with less than 5000 miles on them. Refused to replace them under warranty.I have had good luck with Cooper and Hankook.

When I had my 2000 F-250, it had Firestone Steel-Tex"s on it They lasted up to 95,000 mile before I had to replace them. I"ve always had pretty good luck with Firestones.

The original Wrangler Radials? I find it hard to believe they could go that long without staying in town.

We took the good 2 that came of the boss' boy's toyota mini-truck and put on the F150. By the time we'd get 2 back from patching, the other 2 were going flat again. I finally refused to put them on the truck again.

You probably have the Wrangler Authorities, which are a pretty good tire.

The boss got tired of fixing them on the Toyota and put BFG's on it after seeing how well the bald ones on my Amigo worked. His boy hasn't punctured one of those yet, since last spring.

My '10 Subaru has Yokahama Geolanders on it... 125,000 miles and still lots of tread on them. Will replace them with Yokahama's.
