The post below aboot your first car got me to wondering aboot your first thractor.
What was the first tractor you bought, how mucha did you give for it, did yo buy it from a dealer or individual and do you remember what yaer it was?
The first tractor I acquired was an unstyled B John Deere in 1959, gave $150.00 to a farmer that bought it used.

First tractor I drove was Dad'd 8N Ford. First tractor I bought was a JohnDeere 730electric stert diesel.Pd $2500 for it in '77.Sold it in '82.

First tractor I bought was an A.C C. Came with a sickle mower an a loose front end. She ran like a watch, and was all I had until the John Deere B.

First tractor was an Allis Chalmers B-1 garden tractor, I was 8 years old maybe, it was sitting near the junk pile at my grandpa's farm. The engine had given up 4 or 5 years prior while my dad was mowing with it and it got parked. Being the typical tinkering farm kid I was determined to get it going. Luckily my other grandpa had a Briggs motor on a auger he no longer needed which became the new power for my tractor. I still remember the smile on my grandpa's face when we finally got it going. Thinking back I'm not sure if it was from the excitement of seeing that engine run or seeing how proud I was when I drove it out of the shop. I still have the tractor, it hasn't been run in 15 years I bet. Maybe someday one of my kids will want to re-resurrect it!

First owned- AC model C, sn 23349, at age 16. Then 1941 B JD, then Caterpillar D4, (no blade) at age 20. Bought for $850 to resell, made $150 on it.

The first tractor I bought was a JD 730 gas. Paid about $2000 for it. It ran but had a knock. This was my first lesson in what it can cost in time and money to take on a tractor project.

The first tractor I ever drove was my grandpas MM R. He bought it new, I still have it.

First tractor I bought was a 1950 B John Deere. Bought from Quality Implement in Peterson Iowa, from the junk lot. It was stuck and missing the carburetor. I still have it and it still runs fine.

First i drove was Grandpa's '53 Jubilee Ford. I own it now. First one I bought was a '59 Ford 971. Bought it at an auction. Used it two years, then sold it to help pay for my first cab tractor. Sold it to the grandson of the original owner. He still has it.

my first one 1950 farmall c with wide front has narrow front now

first one I bought was a 1950 CASE "D" in 1969, it was on the local JD dealers lot, I gave 125.00 for it I still have it today
cnt

In the '70s I paid $50 for a 1937 Oliver 60 RC - I still have it. I put a set of 10' gin poles on the back with an electric winch - very handy :) Had to put in a clutch 4 or 5 years ago but she starts and runs good.

Bought with my dad about 1980... David Brown 1210. It was in "Junk row" at Yoder and Frey. Had a couple bent push rods($5 parts), dad had it going within an hour or two of it coming off the truck. I am going out to spray with it as soon as I finish this coffee.

First bought was a 340 International. I had to have it. Tractor, loader and plow $3000. Dumb kid. In the winter I had to build a fire to warm up the darn thing or the hyd pump wouldn't work. glad to see it go.

First tractors I drove were Case on steel, no idea what model.. then a Case model D .. First owned a Cub , then progressively got bigger.. I don't have any right now except for a Simplicity Model V that I just finish graded my back yard with..

My first tractor was a 1948 M Farmall with loader. I bought it from a retired farmer. I owned it 9 years and sold it to a collector after that. Worst tractor I ever owned too.
Kow Farmer Kurt

43 2N with FEL bought it for my 51st birthday. Was working with it day after 53rd birthday and had a heart attack (happy birthday to me LOL).
Here we are loading a buddy's trailer with goodies for his garden this past spring.

Model 60JD. Bought in '71 - &400. Farmed it for a year before I realized it was only running on 1. Still have it. Refurbished a few years ago. Lives in heated shop.

Mine was a '49 Farmall M with the big Farmhand F10 loader. That thing was a beast. It had been well abused before I bought it but the darn thing always started and ran. Sometimes parts fell off if it, and I broke the loader brace across the back of the tractor (the loader kind of surrouned the tractor) trying to roll a downed cottonwood out of the driveway, but the thing always ran. I kind of miss it.

Now I have power steering and live power, but I always wonder if the new tractor is going to start in the winter.

FIrst tractor I owned is my 1952 8N Ford. I bought it in 1994. It came with a loader, tire chains, harrow and one-bottom plow for $1,000 from my next door neighbor, who sold it to me quickly to keep her soon-to-be ex-husband from selling it first. I made sure I got a written receipt.

I was in the fourth grade. I had a cow of my own and my own milk can number. I bought an Allis Chalmers C from the school janitor for $150. I bought an Oliver 77 at the sale in Archbold Ohio for $550 when I was 14. I drove that one home 150 miles.

First tractor that I bought was a Case CC for $50.00 about 1959. It ran very poorly, Got it up in shape and farmed with it for a few yrs. It was my " back up " tractor. It still is in the family.

First Rig I drove and farmed with was 1972? John Deere 4000 diesel (power shift)owned by my Uncle wish I could have got that at his auction... to young/ no money.. so now a fixed up a 1963 4010..love it just the same.. I do wish it had side console and dual remotes, but still good tractor. Think I will put out a post on the JD page wondering if anybody knows where that 4000 ended up. It sold the same day as his 4440. The auction was between Alma and Gilmanton WI. early 2000nds... Thanks

First tractor was a Cletrac AG about a '39. We did not know the year of tractors back then. I was 16, paid $350. It was all painted up and had dealer stickers on it. I built a haywire dozer on it. Later I farmed with it. I should have stuck with the dozing, I farmed for the next 50 years not very profitably.

Tom, Look like this one? Father in law and I picked this one up this Spring for $1,300.00 been going though it and getting it ready to go.

In the late 1960's worked a Ford 641. Had side cycle, scrape blade, pulled 12' gang mowers, bush hog, every trailer on the place, did light logging with it. Every morning after walking chores, got on it and usually stayed til nearly dark.

73 or 74 MF135 Deluxe. Had a reto fit cab and loader. Had the flap top fenders, Removed the cab as had to clinb in the back side. Have removed the loader just a couple years ago. Bought it from a dealer in Huron SD for 3500. Think that had to be 12 or 13 years ago.

My first bought with my own money is a '46 Farmall H. I paid $600 to an individual. Bought it in 2012. Since then, I've added a 3 pt. hitch and new back tires.

Allis Chalmers B with rear buzz, a two wheel trailer, and tire chains. Bought it from the neighboring farmer on the east border of our farm. Paid $900 for all in 1990.

First tractors i drove were a pair of Kubotas B7100D. Owned by my grandfather, i still have one.
Then i moved up to a Case 430 with manual steering and a front end loader. My Godfather owned that,it was replaced with a David Brown 990 with power steering.
First tractor i bought, when i was 15, was a junk row ferguson TE20 that i still have. Getting tired now, and last weekend i noticed a leaky exhaust valve.

First tractor was a Moline R bought it from a neighbor. It had been hot and pistons were galded. Gave $100 in 1966. Think was a 1948. Bored the blocked and got new pistons given to me. Never kept it long. Got a U next with a 423 engine.

My first tractor was a 1937 John Deere D that I bought for $75.00 and it came with the orignal manuals ( bought in 1967 and still have it).

First I bought & owned with my own money
was 1970 I bought a Oliver 60 with cultivators.
Worked all summer it seem like haying for the
money. I paid 35.00 for it, had 4 flat tires
But little old me at 13 years old brought a
bicycle tire pump & spent the better part of a
whole day getting enough air in the rear tires
to drive it home... Today I am much stronger
because of it. LOL

For got to say that by the time I got the
rears up enough the frts went flat again....

First tractor I drove was probably a 48? DC Case. Don't remember. I was driving long before I can remember. First tractor I bought was a big 400 Case. Think I paid $500 for it in 94. Fist I owned was a 50 Cockshutte diesel. Traded a jug headed Shetland pony for it when I was 7 or 8.
Neighbor guy felt sorry for me with the dumb pony.

I was 25 years old before I got back into farming. (I had started off-farm work at age 17). I bought an AC 170D inexpensively from a dealer because it had a cracked block. I used it for a few years, carrying water and adding it as I went. I then traded it off. I wish now I had fixed it up myself and kept it.

First tractor I ever bought was my dads 1948 A John Deere fitted with a Speeco wide front. Bought it for $450 on Dad's farm sale in 86, sold it in 88 on a consignment auction for $800, and bought it back on another consignment auction in 95 for $380. I still have it.

First tractor I bought was an 8N Ford with MF Dyna-Balance mower, for $900. It was our first year on our first farm in 1972, and we didn't have any equipment, so I contracted out the hay. A guy came in with that outfit, but didn't take it home after he got done. Approached me about buying the outfit, said he was about broke from haying and just wanted to get out. Price was right, so I bought it.

Looking back, I think he didn't want to take it home because the bank was looking for it.

I sold it to a goat farmer in '75, and he is still using it.

After working for two years as a hospital aid for $2,500.00 a year, we decided to come back to SD to farm. I was 21 years old, it was 1955. I bought a brand new "60" John Deere with a 801 three point hitch and a remote cylinder for $2,230.00. It was a '54 model held over to '55 because nobody wanted the wide front! Next came four daughters, we have four, and hail and drought. I about wore it out custom plowing with a mounted 813 3-14's plow. We somehow made it - with God's help. I've been retired for fourteen years.

First drove, Jubilee. First I got as a bundle when I bought the land from my mother at about age 25 or so. JD 2510, 630, 530, 520; Oliver 1855, 660; Allis D14, Ford Jubilee, and a few non runners (3 Bs, Fordson Major, Ferguson, etc.). First I went and picked out, White 2-105, and now the JD 4240 that is supposed to finally get here tomorrow. Most are "retired" for various and practicality reasons, but I have all of them.

Oliver 1955 4wd. Bought it in the fall of 1973 from my father who was a dealer at the time. Dealer cost on that tractor was $13,600. Prices have inflated a weeeeee little bit in 40 years, haven't they?

When I was Freshman in HS, 1950, I wanted(HAD to have) a Farmall A. My Dad finally drove to a big auction up in Ohio and brought back a 1939 AC B . It wasn't what I wanted, but that was all that was in my price range. $300. I t was a dog to get started, and the cultivators on and off was an half day job, but it was a hard worker.

My first tractor is a Case Vai , 37 years ago .. I bought it at a auction and don't remember how much , know it wasn't a lot because we just built a house in the country .. and wife didn't think we need it ... he-he
I remember driving it home , it went faster than any other tractor I ever drove ... wifes grandfather said it was a " county tractor " with a road gear in it ...
It doesn't have a serial # but from what I found it is a 49 or 50 ...
It's my next one to fix up and clean up and get a paint job ...

First tractor I drove was our case 800. The first tractor owned was a 48 Farmall cub that grandpa bought when I was 10 or so, dad had a student of his restore it and it became mine when grandpa died. The first tractor I bought was a 1969 case 930 with a rod out the side of the block. It was my college project and current pulling tractor. Here"s a picture of each of them.

First I bought was a 52 Farmall H. Bought from dealer (New Ulm Ford Tractor) New Ulm Mn. Bought a loader from them at the same time and had them mount it. Think I gave $895 for it in 1976. Nice little tractor that I worked to hard. Pulled a 1500 gallon honey wagon with it and ground tons and tons of hog feed with a Owatonna mixer-mill. Ran it about 8 years then replaced it with a 560. That handled the jobs much better.

Fun to read all the posts. The first tractor that I bought was a 1952 Massey Harris model 30, bought it from an ad in the Sunday Tribune, was located in North Minneapolis in a garage and tiny alley. I loaded it in the parking lot of North High School, and was glad to get the he-- out of there. I think I gave $350 for it, nice shape, had the origional tires and was 27th from the last one ever made. Still have it, about 4 engines later, PS, 12 volt, Schwartz wide front, etc, etc. Use it all the time, out of the whole herd, it's my favorite for lighter work.

First tractor i bought with my own money was a Fordson super major from a Ih dealer at their annual auction, didnt get a tank of fuel though it and it started to knock bad, three times the auction cost of the tractor for a rebuild motor, she ran like a champ! Just the way things go sometimes!

First one I ever drove was dad's 37 Jack Sheep A, at age 12 mowing, and then later graduated to all the hay work. He gave it to me when I was 16 and the day after I traded for a Super MTA. Worked it like a dog for a couple years then sold it, bought my 9n and equipment, the 2000 prior, and the 49 cub (bought it twice, actually) and here I am!

Mac

First tractor I drove was Dads Allis_Chalmers B which I still have, at age 6. First tractor I bought was a 1940 John Deere H, which I also have. I paid $275 for it with new tires all around. Spent twice that getting it running good again and used it for 25 years until I restored it and showed it at EXPO 11.

The first tractor I bought was a 1952 ZAU MM for $100 back in 1984 when I was a Vo-Tech. Dad had a 1950 ZAU which I still have. Restored it back then and still use it around the yard mostly. Bought a 2 bottom MM plow to go with it.

The first tractor I bought was in 1976, a Farmall M with a bad engine. I overhauled the engine, had to replace a cracked head, repainted it and traded it on an International 2444 with loader and box scrapper. It was about 10 years old and it too needed an engine overhaul. I still have that one. It doesn't get many hours on it, less than 1000 in 35 years but I really would miss it if it wasn't here.

Depends on type of tractor, I bought several bulldozers before my first wheel tractor. Wheel tractor is MM R quite a few since then.
