2006 f-250 5.4lL question. HELP!

Yeah, what do you want to know? They can get sticky
and cause terrible rough idle and clatter. There
are solenoids and sensors too in the system. Ford
likes to replace EVERYTHING when there is an issue
including the timing chains and guides to the tune
of about 2500.00.

The neighbor is on his third one. This one is a Jasper, supposedly they drilled the lube holes out bigger than stock in this one. My son works in an engine machine shop. He said that's the big issue with those is that those oil holes are too small.

I also have the same engine in a 2004.
I researched this issue and found some good videos
on you tube that explains the problems and the solutions.
Good luck

most common problem I have seen is the sealant ring around the timing chain tensioner blows out and causes a low oil pressure condition for that side of the engine making the cam phaser hard to control , gradually getting worse until lack of lube causes camshaft failure etc. If you have noise and runs rough at idle and it happened all at once you may just have a bad VCT solenoid or a timing chain guide may have broken or a combination of these failures. How many miles ? These engines need regular oil changes with GOOD filters, not the undersize el cheapos. I am a Ford tech, so I see these a A little time with a scan tool and you can usually tell what the failure is before you have to open it up.
