How nasty is diesel?

The fuel sender on the L8000 has a bad float. How nasty is diesel? Would it eat up a fishing bobber? Don't laugh - I've been stewing about this for months. Apparently they don't sell just the tin float. Any other options?

It might after a while but maybe not. I'm sure it would last a good while. Give it a whirl. That is why God allowed us to invent fuel filters!

What's a "L8000"? Sounds to me like a Ford truck???
ANYHOW, GOOGLE "COAZ-9202-B".

Or, stop at the stealership. $5 and up.

try one - drop a bobber in a tin can of diesel.

I know that some of the diesel additives can be nasty on plastic...

You can find any size cork stopper you want on the internet. Original Farmall gas gauges all had cork floats. But they only usually lasted 40 years.

LOL not on the 06/66/56/26 series, the float was OK, just the ret of the gauge was junk

Don't know if it would attack the plastic, but can just about bet it would dissolve the glue that holds the two halves of the bobber together.

You mentioned tin float. Is it about an inch in diameter and about two inches long? If so, I know one source for a float is the real late model '5' series Deere combines (55-95-105) that had a fuel gauge. The sender had a float like I described that's held inside a kind of a shepherd's hook. You snap it out and snap a new one in the hook. Easy to get at, six screws and the sender is ready to pull out of the tank. Jim
