What Was You First Car?

'57 Pontiac Star Chief 2 door hardtop, bronze and white with leather seats and 4 speed Hydramatic. Purchased in 1967 off the back row of local Olds dealer for $175.00. Loved that car.

1947 Pontiac, 239 CI flathead 6 with three on the column.

It was a deluxe model and the first car I ever saw with a rear windshield wiper (vacuum) until the advent of minivans.

A 1917 Model "T" Ford, in Janurary 1,1956: I gave $10.00 fur it.
A couple months later I sold it fur $25.00, that started my passion for old cars, that wuz a money making deal. Bought a 1929 Model "A" fer $50.00 and been spending money on cars ever since.

My first vehicle was a 1 1/2 ton chevy truck. But my first car was an cream color Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 with a 371 V8.

My first car was a 1962 Plymouth Valiant. I had 400,000 miles or more on it but it had been a telephone company car and the engine was rebuilt every 100,000 miles and I even had paper work in the glove compartment to prove it. It was also that old ugly dark telephone company green.

62 corvair. Blown engine.Dad drug it home put in the back yard and told me if I wanted a car to fix it. At 16 One of the best lessson he taught me.

used 76 chevy 3/4 ton pick-up. Dad bought it to use on the farm. Older sister drove it a little but wasn't her first vehicle. It became mine when I got my license. Drove it for about a year and half, and then it got totaled in a head on collision. Another kid about my age was driving way to fast, came around a bend and onto the bridge where I was. Little old narrow bridge. I had no where to go, he couldn't get stopped. I can still close my eyes and see the accident happen. I then bought a 77 chrysler newport 2 door to drive for awhile. What a big old boat that was. Was longer than my parents station wagon. I really hated losing the truck in the accident. Alot of memory's coming back thinking about all this.

1960 Ford Fairlane 500, six with an automatic.,two door sedan, red and white, was 11 mo. old.
Put about 100,00 miles on it. clint

53 Ford with the flathead V8, three speed with overdrive. My dad bought it from a guy who was leaving for the army. It had duals with glass paks, wasnt all that fast but sure sounded good. My last year of highschool (1963) and I sure had some fun with that car. Thanks Dad!

69 Chevelle 283 4 speed. Wish I could have afforded to keep one of those old hot rods that were relatively cheap to purchase in the early 80's.

thanx for the link ,, I visited brochures for my 2nd car 1969 marguis convertible ,, still have it in the garage ..also visited my dads 57 Desoto fireflite hdtp,,, that car would fly ,, oh my 1st car was a boring hi mileage 4dr 1972 torino , with a worn out 6 and tranny, it had been used for newspaper delivery , and I seriously doubt if they changed oil 4 times in its 120 Thousand miles... it was only a yr old, b ut it was junk ..

1986 Buick Skyhawk T-Type 2-door with a turbo 1.8L engine. If I'd had known then how rare that car was I would not have traded it off!

1962 Dodge Dart 2 dr sedan 361 V8 push button automatic, tore it up in that car, been looking for another one since 1975.

This one's a hardtop and not mine but you get the idea.

Am I the only one who drove a Studebaker? First car was a 1952 Studebaker 4 door Land Cruiser, 232 V8 with overdrive.

I started driving on the road in Grandpa's Dodge Colt, with him beside me. I also spent a lot of time in Grandma's field with Dad's 60 Chevrolet, long bed, step side pickup. I wound up driving it back and forth to high school.

On graduation day I drive what was technically MY first car, a 55 Chevy 2dr 210 series wagon, for the first time.

Technically, my first was a 1964 Mercury Comet. Didn't have it long. Steering linkage broke as I was cresting a reverse banked knoll on a curve, and it took me over a 30-foot embankment, hitting a tree about 20 feet off the ground. This one was quickly replaced by a 1960 Pontiac Bonneville 4-door hardtop. 389 V-8 with a hydramatic transmission. One of the best cars I ever owned! Drove it for over 10 years, and it finally got too rusty to keep alive any more.

1929 Chevrolet 4 door sedan. It cost me $15.00 from the junk yard I was working at. Man came by one day and offered me a $100.00 bill for it. Took it and bought a '39 Chevrolet 2 door and was on my way working up to better cars.
'Later, Gene Davis

'68 Mercury Cougar for $150. It got 15 miles per gallon of gas and 30 miles per quart of oil. Good thing gas was 69 cents per gallon.

1959 Renault, bought it in 66 to drive to college everyday. ost assuredly one of the lowest quality cars I ever saw. Made a Beetle look like a luxury car. so unsafe they quit allowing them to be imported in the 60s.

First one was a 55 chevy, four door Bel-Air, power guild with 265 V-8. Had a lot of fun my senior year with that car. Second one was a 64 chev, Impala, 327 four barrel, four door hard top, baby blue with white top.

Okay, so if one is following this thread or any other thread for that matter, and when it gets to multiple pages, why, when you get an email alert that someone has replied to said thread, why do we get directed to the first post on the first page rather than getting directed to the last response in the thread?

Not a big deal I suppose but it seems like it should be an easy fix.

My first car was a two door 1970 maverick, 5 cylinder 200 CID 3 on the tree. It was missing on one cylinder, had burnt valve.

'61 Ford country sedan station wagon. Blown engine; dad said if I could fix it I could have it; quickly followed by '62 Galaxie 500 4dr.; then senior year of high school: '67 Ford Fairlane GTA. My first "real" car!!!

'65 Mustang , bought in '69 already rusted out and fixed up. Paid $550. Drove it a year , wrecked and fixed rt. front and paint job and sold for $750 when Uncle Sam called. Mechanically excellent. Body junk.

1958 Rambler American 4 door (yes I know they only made the 4 door in 1960, but the title said 1958) never got it road worthy but drove it all over the farm.

1st car that was "Mine" (but Mom held the title & paid for insurance)that I was able to drive on the road was a 1963 Pontiac Bonneville convertible with a 389 tri-power& a Roto Hydramatic trans.

1st one with my name on the title that I paid all the bills for was a 1971 Plymouth Cricket (Hillman Avenger)

Grandma decided it was time to give up driving about the time I got my licence.

Sigh. Well, it was wheels.....

Still sitting in the grove. Hole in oil pan. Need to send it to China.

Paul

"55 Ford" with a '59 Police interceptor 352 and '55 Merc 3-speed Overdrive...
Man, would that thing fly..!!
(3.23:1 rear gears)..

Ron.

66 Plymouth Fury 4 dr w/318 "Y" block, got 25MPG @ 70MPH, in Mom's name. 1st in my name was 70 Duster w/318 2bbl

My first cart was a 1937 Chevy Master Deluxe coupe. I bought it in 1964 at age 16 for $75 and still have it today, sitting safely in one of my machine sheds. To this day I regret not having also bought a 1940 Chevy coupe from the same guy for $50, but I was 16, so what would I have done with two cars? I opted for the one that ran. (I just realized the 50th anniversary of my ownership was last March.)

the first one I bought back in the day was a 1969 olds cutlass it was 5 years old at the time, a "strike car" it came from the factory with a chevy 350 in it, made it easy for bolt on a few pieces like manifold, carb and cam, old grocery getter would run pretty darn good!

First vehicle I bought was a 1953 Chevy 1 1/2 ton truck.
My first car was a '67 Chrysler Newport. 383/auto.

My first car was a 1973 plain jane Ford 2-door galaxie. It could pass for an unmarked state patrol car. It was yellow in color and seemed to be a target for crashes. It got hit 3 times in the one year that I owned it. Got rid of it after the third accident. To this day, I will not own a yellow vehicle
