How was the vegetable crop this season?

Wondering if the big canneries were able to get enough vegetables to can - or will the prices of canned veggies go up too???

I know it was too dry in the west and too wet in a lot of the midwest, but don't know how much it affected vegetable production.

Here in SW PA our veggies did great. We are still fighting the tomato blight but we have a lot coming on now. Our sweet corn was neglected but still produced ok. Potatoes were alright and all our other fruits and veggies surpassed what we thought we would get.

my vegs didn"t do so well.my acorn squash took over the whole garden. i have acorns as big as bolling balls, odd colored as well. i havent tried one yet. don"t know when they are ripe. wally

The best potatoes I've ever grown. Corn is just starting and tomatoes are coming on. Second planting of green beans are just setting beans. Rabbits got my peas and I didn't get lots of stuff planted due to a late wet spring. Zinnias are pleasing the ladies at church and the butterflies. Squash are doing well. Weeds are horrible, but I'm not alone. Fruit crop is very short this year, peaches and blueberries. Heinz has a pickle plant not far from here and farmers contract pickles; others green beans.

MN canneries had major difficulties with the extremely wet Spring. Lousy pea, sweet corn crops. Green Giant not very jolly right now.

Hearing the sweet corn crop started late, but is yielding very well now, above average.

Peas were a bust by all accounts, terrible.

The canneries from Mn. contracted many acres of Peas and Sweetcorn in my area of Central Iowa. Think the yield was good talking with farmers.
