Water separator for painting a tractor

Would like to buy or make a halfway decent water separator for painting a few tractors. Would like some recommendation from people that are happy with what you are using.

Years ago when I painted for a hobby, I had a toilet paper filter. Air went through toilet paper to dry. The filter was factory made too.

I used 50 ft of 1/2 copper inside the freezer of old refrig. The cold air condensded moisture. The other side of my 50 ft copper still went to a regular filter, which filled quickly on humid days. Then air went to TP filer.

I rent out the building I had my paint booth, but it worked as planned.

When I paint tractors, do it when it's cooler and less humidity. My air lines are iron pipe, drop legs, stone air filters does a good enough job.

I could go get my TP filter and still. It was connected to a 5 hp compressor which got used almost non stop when I was doing body work. If you didn't keep moisture out of air, it would come out pneumatic tools and contaminate surface.

Now I prefer to use electric sanders, electric grinders, electric impacts over pneumatic. Just use air to paint, so moisture isn't much a problem anymore.

for about a hundred dollars or so, napa sells a nice little dryer/filter combination. leave the drain on the water seperator slightly cracked open, just so it drips water out.

I have a friend who paints old cars and hot rods, he built a water filter from a 3 ft piece of PVC, cut in half and glued on a screw type connector and buslhed the ends down to fit air hose. Place a washer tied to a piece of wire long enough to pull out or each end and loosely place paper towels in both end and screwed together, at the end of the day, unscrew the filter and pull the wire to removed the towels and dry them overnight or replace with new ones. I made one to use with my sandblaster and never had anymore problem with moisture. I can send pics if interested.

I looked on mine. If it has a brand name it must be toward the wall. It's a filter/dryer/regulator. I'm 99% sure it came from Northern Tool. It must have been pretty cheap or I wouldn't have bought it. It works good for my paint sprayer and plastic welder both.

I use TP filters never have had a issue... My dad use to paint at least one car a week with TP filters never had a issue with water... I have his Emglo compressor it has a chamber you hook a water hose to, to cool the air before it goes into the tank...
