International 484 engine losing power

Hi there helpful crowd, looking for the why"s to trouble with my IH 484.

Was out brush mowing for 3 hours or so the other day and seemingly out of the blue the tractor started losing power. It would drop from 1700 rpm to about 600 and then come back up to 1700. I turned her around and limped home. I also noticed this, but to a very very minimal amount, last fall plowing the garden under.

Fluids all seem fine, all hydraulics operate...

HELP! Thanks!!!

Hi Ben, is it a Diesel? Then dirty fuel filter(s) or junk clogging the outlet of the fuel tank. If fuel filter(s) do not fix the problem then with a clean bucket to catch the Diesel fuel, remove the fuel line that comes from the tank and goes into the first fuel filter and let in drain into the bucket.
The fuel should flow the full of the pipe. You can blow compressed air back into the tank and that will be a short term fix. Permanent fix is to drain both sides of fuel tank and remove the outlets and clean outlets and tank.

Thanks Jim! It is a diesel, and I swapped out the fuel filters less than 10 hours ago. I'll try the tank check asap. If I do this should I worry about an air lock? Thinking no as the gravity should feed right back to the filter... Thanks for the suggestion! Just filled the tank yesterday, now to find a clean pail.
