My wife let 2 7 year old granddaughters each plant a row in the garden with anything they wanted. This is one from yesterday with her first harvest!

She was so proud of herself!

I'll bet, that's awesome ! When I think of gardening, I'm always reminded back to the limited time I had with my grandfather, and one afternoon way back when we planted tomatoes in this small patch of rich soil next to the old milkhouse, I've done so almost every year since. Nice sunny afternoon, farm was still active with crops in all the fields, pastures in use, farmhouse and nicely shaded back yard with a lush green lawn, those were the days !

Good deal! That pic reminded me that we had a dog once that loved corn on the cob. Mom always cooked a couple ears for him whenever we had corn. He'd eat all the corn off clean to the cob.

So glad she is proud of what she accomplished. So
many don't have this chance to see and feel let
alone eat the fruits of their labor.
Congratulations to all of you!

The first year we did that with my son he didn't water/hoe as advised and didn't get a good crop. The next year he made sure to do it right and got some ears that looked almost as good as your grand daughters. Of course, that was the summer that he lost his front baby teeth and couldn't eat it off the cob. We assured him it was delicious.

That's a great educational experience in addition to time well
spent with grandparents. A combination that can't be beat.

That's when you cut it off the cob for them. I have almost always had to do this due to bad teeth and bad dentists ! No room in between the teeth and stuff can get painfully jambed in there.
I have noticed some of who made fun of me years ago are now copying me !

She will never forget it. More than one kind of seed was planted with those rows. If you could flash forward 50 years you would see I bet. Nice looking ears too! Drop them in a pail of cold water for a bit and then put them on the BBQ. Make a big deal out of how good it is...

That's exactly how I got started with my gardening addiction. I remember working in the garden beside my grand-dad when I was about this child's age. I'm pushing 60 now but so much of what I do in my garden, is exactly the way he used to do it in his.

Good for her. Be sure to make a big deal about how good it is, when you eat it.

Hadn't thought about cutting it off the cob for the toothless young'uns for years. They were usually kind of bummed about the missing teeth anyhow, so doing something like cutting the corn off made them feel a little bit special, at least for a little while.
