best mower for weedy old hayfield?

Hi, I mowed my field this Summer with my old 5 foot "bush hog" mower, and it did fine, but I'd like to go faster and cut wider. I solved my overheating problems, and it turned out it was not the "bush hog" that was causing the problem.

My field is about 15 acres of a very old farm. It is kinda humpy, but works ok with either "bush hog" or 7' sickle bar mower. I have both.

My only problem with the sickle bar (Massey Dynabalance 41) is that the weeds are viney in places Vetch, and recently Bedstraw is coming in.

I'm not baling it, just knocking it down for weed control till I retire, then I might want to bale it.

Is there a better mower for viney type forage? I was thinking of one of the old drum mowers, or a disc/bar mower?

Drum type (I really don't know if major manufactures still make these?)

Disk type

Do both of these types rest on the ground while mowing, like the sicklebar mower?

Thanks for any advice,

Troy

Really a bushhog is the right tool as a regular mower lays the
grasses down as a mat over the stubble that can suppress future
grass.

Could you use a 6 or 7 foot bushhog? Due to overlap a 7 ft hog is
almost 2x faster than a 5 ft if you have enough hp to run it.

I have a DRUM mower. Bottom disks slide on ground. Cutters rotate with upper disks. Rarely if ever clog. But they do kind of windrow the cuttings. Also probably not the best for rough rocky ground. Very happy with my drum mower for hay cutting.

7' Mower - try to keep overlap to a minimum without leaving a strip uncut. So I'm probably getting almost a full 7 feet. With the speed I can run, can sure put down a bunch of hay. Was working in a field with a neighbor who runs a 14' disk mower and a 100+hp tractor, and even he was impressed.
