Doing Drugs

Had a oral surgeon remove a tooth yesterday.
He gave me a prescription for pain.
I was reluctant to take them but every time I laid down my face would throb so I broke down and took some thinking I would sleep better.

Boy was that a mistake.

Felt like I was laying in a bed of ants all night with the itch sensation of something crawling just under my skin.
And if that was not bad enough it also gave me very vivid hallucinations.

If this is what it is like to take heroin or cocaine; I think I will pass.
Can not see how people can get enough enjoyment out of this they spend every dime they have on drugs.

John,

I have a brother who was hooked on Rx drugs. They made him crazy.

Please don't hang yourself after doing drugs.

George

I would check the paper they gave you or go online its probably is a reaction. me and penicillian are not friends.
Drugs that aint legal have different effects never done it myself but worked with fools that did.

I have the same situation with codeine type drugs. After the first day they don't do anything for the pain but I see all sorts of things that aren't there. My favorite is genuine Demerol, sends me to "La La Land". I don't have much luck with generic stuff however.

Hey John, You had an allergic reaction. Had a friend That got introduced to heroin while in rehab for prescription drugs. He lasted about nine months before He got enough to overdose and kill himself.
Ron

You might want to thank your lucky stars that it reacted the way it did. My banker got hooked on those things after surgery. Ruined a good life. Get rid of those things NOW.

When I had something similar the dentist told me ibuprofen is a more effective pain reliever than the narcotic alternative.

You should have called a Dr. as soon as those symptems started showing up. You were having a reaction to them and they may have been able to help. At that time probably would have been the emergency room at the local hospital. Not like old times whem a pationt would call my fatherinlaw at home during the night with problems like that. Was a registered pharmist for 50 years. Also had degree in bacteroligy as well. Lost him about 5 year ago.

john you need to call that dr your having a reaction to the meds and thats never good, he'll get you some different meds, speaking as a pretty experienced person on meds i now am up to 13 different ones a day most of which keep me alive, litteraly a few take enough pain away that i can still do something to make sort of a living, drs told me i wouldnt live to see 1980,so, i win, im still here, or most of me is anyway

There is nothing wrong with doing the drugs for a short time, that is why doctors tend to write no refills.

You had a reaction and need to notify your doctor so he is aware of that. I would also let your GP know so it can get on your chart.

I was given a lot of oxycontin and oxycodone after knee surgery. I didn't use much of it and still have it. It is good to have on hand if I get a really bad pain. I took some three times last year when I was in too much pain to sleep. They took the pain away and made me feel like everything is wonderful, but I still could not sleep. Not much point in that, but they still sit on the shelf.

John in La,Sprint 6,

The problem you are having is the medication is bringing out (histamine)allergy. The pain killers I use (hydrocodone) and it causes severe itching. I talked to the Dr about that and he said it makes your allergy cup runnuth over. Now I wait about 2 minutes after taking the pain killer and swallow down a Diphenhydramine HCL allergy relief pill, stops the itching before it starts. It truly works, but if you don't believe it, don't take em and keep on itching.

The addiction depends on the person. I took opoid pain medicine for 10 years for back issues. Just quit when the pain allowed and no withdrawl or cravings. Still take some occasionally when my degenerative disc disease flares up.

Really. Pain killers for a tooth extraction? I have had eight pulled and never felt the need for anything but aspirin. Man up son.

Ron I was thinking the same thing till I looked at the dose he gave me.

I have taken hydrocodone/acetaminophen 5-325 mg before without any problems.

He gave me hydrocodone/acetaminophen 10-325 mg and told me to take 2 pills at a time.

That's 20mg of hydrocodone or 4 times what I have taken in the past 650mg of acetaminophen or twice what I have taken in the past.

Hydrocodone is a opioid (heroin) and Acetaminophen is a less potent pain reliever that increases the effects of hydrocodone.

I was basically strung out on heroin but legally.

OK Lou that explains the itching.
But what about the vivid hallucinations.

I was in a state of half a sleep and half awake.
I can remember hearing someone in the living room. My wife got up and ran into the bath room and I went out and confronted the person.
After being startled awake I could see we were both still in the bed and she was sound asleep.

Dreams, Thats all they are.VIVID DREAMS!!!!
Some dreams are realistic and in color,I had such dreams long before I was troubled with neuropathy and using hydrocodone for pain control. Your last lines of your post indicated you were dreaming, a hallucination is while you are wide awake and see things that aren't there,or so it's been explained to me. The drug does cause vivid dreams, you can google the side effects of hydrocodone, makes interesting reading. I get the prescription warning literature from my pharmacy about it.
I am also afflicted with asthma and my allergies are abundant, and loaded with histamines. Hydrocodone for me, produces a lot of histamines in me, so I use antihistamine capsules to counter the effects of itching, works for me everytime. Glad you understand the histamine factor.
Regards,
LOU

LOL when I blew out my knee VA had me on some pretty strong stuff. I stopped taking it once I realized that it still hurt bad but the drugs made it so I didn't care.

Rick

Seems like the medical people give Prescriptions for the strongest drugs, rather than an adequate one. Hydrocodine nakes me nauseaus, and after Hernia surgery it is bad to be that way. Extra Strength Tylenol works just fine for me. Somewhere in the past 30 years I was in the ER twice, both times young doctors Presscribed a "new" gout medicine for me, I now refuse to accept new medicine to help me.

I guess I am lucky. The only pain medicine that gives me trouble is Codene. I get no buzz off of the opiates nor addiction, just pain relief. I also take 500 mg Naproxin.
