TV antenna signal booster question

I'm using a cheap rca antenna with a 15db booster at the tv.The antenna is on a 30ft tower.I'm on the outer frindge of the local digital signal. We get several stations pretty good, but sometimes the signal comes and goes.I bought a new channel master model cm7777 30db tower mount amp for low signal areas.I hooked it up and have no signal at all.Does the amp have to be matched to the antenna? I guess the amp could be bad.I ordered a
new antenna from them to,but it's back ordered.
Thanks.

Check the connections again. That amplifier should work. As I understand, the antenna booster is primarily to drive the signal from the antenna through cable to the TV. Once you get a better (larger) antenna, you should get a much better pic on the TV. When we lived out in the country, I put up a large channel Master to use with the antenna booster.

Sounds like the tower-mounted amp isn't getting power, which I would ASSUME comes from a power supply in the house, and backfeeds to the tower through the same co-ax that brings the signal into the house.

Check your connections to this dude making sure the in, out and power are connected to the correct ports

I'm voting with Dick2. Little center wire in the coax bent over when it missed the hole.

If you're unlucky (like me) , it will be at the top of the tower.

I took it off and the center wires are fine.Hooked my old one back up so we could watch tv.

There hooked up right. There marked to tv,to amp,and to DC in from the power supply.Anyway to check if it's working?

All suggestions are good. Regarding signal coming and going, that's the nature of the beast. Since they changed to digital TV they changed all but a few staions to high frequencies. The new high frequency frequencies are not as forgiving to atmospheric distortion. Will often fade out morning and evening. Plus the digital signals are either go or no go. With old analog signals we could put up with a snowy picture -no luck aith digital. Your only best solution may to be to significant increase in antenna height. You cannot amplify a nonexistant signal.

My Winegard amplifier has a small red LED light on the (inside-the-house) power supply that glows when there is power.

Channel Master might have a website with trouble shooting information or a link to email their tech support. I use a Channel Master grid type antenna that has been trouble free for eleven years now.

The booster I had was a seperate feed line from the inside part to the tower mount part. Got rid of antenna and tower a few years ago when added on to house where tower stood. But that was just when they changed from analog to digital and for the cost and agrivation stayed with cable supplyer.

most consumer signal boosters are nothing but junk!!!!!!They create more noise than signal gain. They are worthless and do more harm.

However... there are the professional catv boosters, cost more and work fabulous.. Electroline and PCT drop boosters are the real thing, cost a bit more and will work for years to come. They come in various amount of gain so be sure to buy a higher gain model for at the antenna and you will be amazed how clear the signal will be. You can buy a zero gain splitter for breaking out at vcr, tv and dvr. A regular passive splitter will cut the signal in half or even more depending on how many taps it has. A zero gain splitter will amplify and put the same signal level out and what comes in, so why the name is a bit confusing, it maintains exactly the same level for all of its output taps as what is comming in, so the signal is not degraded to extreame low levels. The higher gained models come in 7 and 14 db gain. I would use the higher level at the antenna to compensate for cable loss coming into the the house and down the the set. Then I use the zero gained splitter to send all over the house and to all the dvrs, vcrs, tvs to get a high quality catv grade signal for digital tv. Use a quad shield rg6 coax as well and do not use crappy rg59 at all.

This type of system will run with no problems for 20 to 50 years...

I just bought a channel master cm 7777 30db
booster, but it didn't work out of the box.

NO, the Signal Booster does not have to be matched to antenna. It does need power though. Do you have a power supply in the house that attached to the cable going up to the antenna. I think CM sends a DC voltage up to the pre-amp. It shows that on the case. Do you have a volt meter. I haven't looked up the 7777, however I did antenna installs for many years. CM is decent equipment. If you have more questions, feel free to email me. C Kain
