OT Another Tragic Farm Accident

What a terrible way for a young man to lose his life. This may be one of those rare occasions where a seat belt added to the accident, instead of helping.

Can't get the door open if the boom is not down. He would have been trapped in there. My dad ran excavator, and would leave the door open when working on the bank of a stream or pond.

I have a T250 Bobcat and it has a neoprene glazing rod that holds the door glass in and you pull it like a "ripcord" in case of an emergency. I use my machines around ponds a lot of the time so I have the cord end marked with red electrical tape so I can find it in a hurry if needed.

Awfully crass answer for someone who wasn't there. The young man is dead in an accident that happened on a farm. He was far too young to die, no matter how it happened. For you to armchair quarterback what happened is just wrong.....

Agree with that. It sounds like kind of freak accident but being submerged really complicates it. I don't use the door on my skid steer in the summer but the back window is lexan and designed to be an emergency exit. Some people have replaced the rear window with glass and that's a bad decision. The first thing most people would do, especially submerged, is panic. Just trying to get the seat belt undone would seem like eons. Prayers for the family.

The opening should be wider than the bucket with a raised wall for reference . A horizontal peice between walls that would catch the top of the rops to stop a runaway.
This incident was designed as a death trap . A flat yard cemented flush to the top of the tank wall.
With the tank about full and the manure heaping. The operator put the front wheels over the edge into the tank.
Blame who ever decided a couple bars of re-rod and a yard of cement extra on the entire job was too much $$$ and work.

Do you have another story that says if the loader had a cab/door? Most likely it was open ROPS and when he went in it was pretty well over. The story said it was 4 feet deep. If it had an enclosed cab he would have been OK, it would have taken quite some time to fill the cab, enough to escape, even in a panic.
