semi truck power divider

Don't these trucks have a power divider lock to lock both axles to all 8 wheels so they can drive ?

I've been watching ice road truckers lately and all they are doing is running around without chains in deep snow and getting stuck with only 1 axle spinning.

I know reality TV LOL might not be too much real about it.

The power divider locks and sends power to both front and rear diffs, but on most trucks, these diffs are still open. They do have locking diffs available now,but you rarely see them on highway trucks, mostly, off road loggers and such.

I think a locked power divider will spin one wheel on each axle, then if the axles have limited slip you should be able to spin all 4 sets of duals. The Mack I drove hauling sugar beets would spin all 4, and when that happened a big push tractor would come up behind and away we would go! TV shows like Ice road truckers are so stupid they really show the IQ of the TV audience!

Yes you can get full lock up . A power divider only locks the front and rear axle together giving you 2wheel peel. There is a option to lock the axle up giving you 4wd

Most highway tractors will simply have a power divider or inter-axle differential... Vocational spec trucks, logger/dump/heavy move etc will generally have full four way lockers... so that means a lock in each axle differential as well as the power divider lock.
Ice Road Truckers is only a gong show anyhow...

I recently retired after 37 years of semi driving for a national company (Teamster job). The Ice Road Truckers show is about as fake as a midget playing center on an NBA team.

Keep in mind that most Mack twin screws do NOT have a power divider. They have their own proprietary system. It is a pretty good system, as Macks seldom get stuck in slippery conditions.

My dump had full lockers, if it looked bad I would lock the divider. If did get bad I would lock the axles too, then I could spin all eight.

BIL had an IH 1910 farm truck that moved a pile of corn for him in the day. It had power divider and diff lock. When it was wet (a lot ) you locked it all down and made for the road out of the field but be ready to get her undone when you want to turn or you would go straight across the road and into the opposite ditch.

All that does is give you the capability to dig a bigger, deeper hole farther away from the hard ground.

That's probably true if you don't know how to use it.
