I helped a friend clean out the last of his bins of corn. He had about 1400 bushels. The price on July 30 after the close was $7.83. Today after the close it was $2.76. It would take 4,000 bushels to get the same check today.

When we sold up in 1996 we were getting about £100 per tonne. The following year it dropped to £60 (Ouch!) Not only that it was a very wet harvest and by the time most of it had been dried down enough ( i.e. the cost of the electricity, gas etc) to sell it was worth 50% of sod all. Talk about lucky escape!
Its about £130 now but that is still only 30 quid more than we were getting 18 years ago.

I just noticed the other day that pork futures are starting to get back to reality. Still, 2 weeks ago at the auction 50 pound feeder pigs were going over $2 per pound. A year ago, they were about half that.
