Alpena, MI Tractor Show

My wife and I are thinking of going to the Alpena Tractor show this year. We usually go to the Caro MI tractor show but decided to try something different this year. Has anyone been to this show in the past? If so how are the exhibits and flea market area? Would you rate the show in size as mall, medium or large? Thanks for all of your input, maybe we'll run into some of you their. Seems like this year the shows have not been as good as the past few years, at least the one that weren't rained out.
Thanks again,
Bill

Have you ever tried the one in Buckley Mi. Supposedly one of the best shows around. It is located over by Travers City off M-37.

I like the one in Walloon Lake better than Buckley. It is a smaller show and easier to get around at. But I guess that is what happens when you get old

If you see any of these guys at Oakley, keep your head down. A pretty rough bunch. lol

Used to go to Oakley. Not going any more. Last couple of times the area was over run with golf carts being ridden by kids. Almost hit my wife a couple of times. Wrote to the club and no response. Plus with the distance involved and the entrance fee now up to $10.00 and being retired I'll not be going to Oakley. Buckley is also out due to the distance and along with the cost involved we have animals at home.

Spent some time in the Winter back in the late 70's going to the Besser
Block Machine schools at the community college. Not much tractor show weather there in Jan/Feb (LOL)

I live in Alpena off and on, along with living in Hawks in Presque Isle County. On the Thunder Bay river just down the road from the fairgrounds. I've been to both local tractor meets. Onaway (Presque Isle Co.) and Alpena (Alpena County). Both what I'd call "small." But being small doesn't mean bad. I've never seen the variety though that I'm used to seeing here in central New York. If you are in the area and like old Allis Chalmers - you ought to drive a few miles out of town and go the the Allis Chalmers place in Lachine (Sumerix Equipment). Usually some pretty neat stuff there. Not a show - just old stuff for sale - or being fixed.
I sold a local guy near Alpena a Case VAC-14 last year, along with a 420 Deere. If you see the Case -tell him I still have the original PTO guard and the crank.

I went to the one as Wellington farm one year. It was alright but not a lot of stuff there but that was when they were getting started. The church in the picture with the cars us to sit just around the corner by my place and they moved it up there. I have heard that the slay rides they have at Christmas time are great. The village is all lit up with candles and the trees are decorated from that time period

Are you guys going to Oakley? What day, let me know and I'll meet you. Sure was fun last year. email me, or phone 517-617-2391.
