OT: Surgery went fine

The great surgeon removed the cataract from my left eye today.I went under the knife(so to speak) without benefit of anethesia. So far having no problems, I am going back tomorrow, so surgeon can see how it's doing. I got a lot of comments in the operating room, all positive (good work LOU). Now I know what it's going to be like on the right eye come August. The risk for anethesia via IV was too big of a risk for strangulation of thick speutum causing me to choke while laying flat on my back. I didn't have to use an anethesiaologist, but she was in the room in case something went haywire. All my vitals were like a 20-30 yr old, now I'm looking forward to the right eye being taken care of. Lots of thought went into my problem,it was a great team.Never did like the idea of being put under with no control, to tell the truth, I'm a big chicken. The ones on here that gave me the encouragement to do it, a long time back, was helpful, along with the surgery that was performed on my daughter and my wife, with the same team.
Know I know what they mean by the term, second sight.lol.

LOU

Glad to hear the good news, none of this is ever easy, but you are better for it and have confidence for the next session. The eyeball thing, that's kind of creepy, you know how everyone has their thing, they don't like, but I'd imagine I'd get through it, the grin and bear it thing and what it takes to build up or tolerate what one must, not easy for anyone, some better than others. Always nice to hear good news!

I'm not a big fan of being put out, but have trusted several times that I would awake again, you just come to grips with it, meds do the rest. 2 years ago, I had the foot surgery, and i did not know I'd be out, I got the epidural in the outside of the upper thigh, nerve flooded with whatever to make it go limp, then sedation meds, maybe before even, but thought it was a local and I'd be conscious, when I woke up I was like what the .....? well in a good way, cripes, I had no one to bring me anyway, had to get this done, so my neighbor got me there, waited til it was over and got me home, well it worked out fine and I'm much better for it, but I figured it was not like general anesthesia, but worked just like it. Worst part was they had this shortage of drugs, day to day, I was fearing that if I was not numbed enough, but unable to move, that would be awful, that scares me with this stuff, can't say or do anything, say like when you go to the dentist, you can tell him to numb it more or the same when you need stitches, been there done that, quality time with the doctor LOL !

Thanks for the kind replies. Phone just rang, it was the surgeon, who I will see tomorrow. He wanted to know if I was in any pain, or any problems.Gotta none.

On the way to town this morning, I was worried about going under and not coming out. This has been on my mind prior to the surgery, now my wife on the other hand, has had several operations, for severe health issues, under the knife so many times, its hard to count anymore. Now she's the one with the strength, and as I said, I'm a chicken.Theres lots more I'd like to do for my family. All the operating staff members gave me a lot of encouragement thru the process, saying "Lou your doing great". I was so glad to be awake during the ordeal, only goes to show, God loves Fools and puppy dogs. You folks be careful and take good care of your eyes and other health issues.

when you get that other eye done you will be able to see through wimmins dresses,GGG
i know someone who had that done and cannot praise it enough . al

Lou:

Great! , Glad to hear ya got 'er done, and without any complications. If they gave you Antibiotic ointment for that eye - USE IT - the last thing in the world you need is to get an infection in that eye. Also, no matter how much it itches, DON"T rub it for at least a month. BTDT

Good luck on the other one.

Al,
If I could see thru dress's it would be like BB kings tune "The Thrill is Gone"lol. Current trend for dress's is it doesnt take much more shortening and it will ALL be visible.lol Miss the old days when dresses went past the knee's.

Found out today that the new lense has a UV built in, makes my left eye look a little bluer than my right. Dr say now I have 20/80 in it and will get better each day.Should be back to 20/20 hopefully Dr doesn't see any problems getting back to that vision.Looking forward to having the right eye done on Aug 5th.
Thanks for the reply,

Dr. Walt,
Dr has me on 3 different drops in the eye 4 times daily. One is anti biotic, and stay on those for 5 weeks progressing down to once a day by the end.I will follow the Dr's advice to the letter, as I want my sight to stay.Play it safe, and don't do anything to jeopardise it. After the eyes are done it's back to the dentist for refitment, only do one thing at a time. Thanks for the reply.

Thunder and lightning coming in so the rest who have replied, I THANK YOU ALSO.

LOU
