Continental f400a

I have a 1951 Massey Harris 30. Has a continental F400A engine but I am not sure which one it is and not sure if it is original. There is no tag on the engine towards dipstick. Has what I believe to be 418 stamped next to the F400A and the 9-17 cast in next to that and then 149 cast in vertically on side of block. Head only had F400A cast on it. Any help greatly appreciated

That is a Casting # only . IIRC , that was on an F163 4 cyl continental flathead engine ....

As mentioned, f400 is a part #, the type used on the F124/149/162..

One catalog says the 30s came wiyh the F162, but others may've been options...
(Automotive F4162, Ind'l (Ag) F162, Power Unit PF162)

I emailed montesequipment and they said my numbers mat ached up to a f163 engine rated at 40.8 hp. It just surprises me because the valves are adjusted and head shaved and pistons are tight an runs good but is lacking on power. I got it just for pulling but even in 4000 pound class it will just stall with a stoneboat pull
