Been driving GM vans for 16 years (Venture, Montana and Uplander). Dreaming about what the next vehicle should be since GM quit making these.

Would like to stay in the van category, but seems the selection is rather limited.

Any recommendations? I prefer to stay with used units.

Thanks

We bought GM vans for years, always had problems with one thing or another. In 2006 we went to Honda vehicles and have never had a problem since.
A lot better trade in value also.

Know this is no help at all, but we really loved our Lumina APV and Silohette. Don't make them any more either. Were very flexible in seating, cargo space, fairly good economy, excellent in smow and bad weather. And no body rust problems! Would buy another if I could find one a couple years used! (Yeah , I know, ain't a gonna happen.)

Just traded off our Uplander at the end of June.( I despised that thing!) We looked for several weeks, both new and used vans by Honda,Dodge, and Nissan. They were good, and would have served its purpose for us, but I could not get comfortable in any of them we drove. Looked at a used Traverse, but started looking at new since new ones were basically the same price as a good used one. Found a 2012 Buick Enclave, really nice comfortable vehicle, and the price was right for the low miles on it. Mileage is slightly better than the Uplander it replaced, but not by much. Its much more comfortable than the Uplander, and seems to have just as much room inside, but the "trunk" space is a tad smaller, but that's no biggie. We would put some things in the back seat anyways. As with our Uplander, the very back seat is good for small people, like kids, but if I had to ride back there for any length of time, my claustrophobia would kick in. The mid seats have more leg room, but wont recline back like the Uplander.

I will second that, go with anything not made here. Had very good luck with both Mazda and Honda. Made the switch in 2003 and not looked back. No problems with them, just do regular maintenance and drive

You said "I will second that, go with anything not made here".

Then complain about the high taxes to support the unemployed.....

Not very many foreign vehicles in my area (on the lots either, I know one dealer doesn't have any, the other, if any, can't be more than a couple off of memory (they are 30 miles away)), agricultural area, some, just not many of those around. Mostly diesel trucks, F150s, etc. I never had any issues with domestic I guess. I have seen and heard of many Dodge Caravans in the area, and in family. I have an "old" 02 I bought for within $50 of trade in value almost 10 years ago. I use it as my road vehicle, but it goes out in the pasture too (as in off road, where accessible). I leave all the back seats out, some newer ones just fold into the floor. Makes for decent room for supplies/feed/salt, etc. Never an issue with it at all. Some in the family have over 200k on them. The early ones would rust apart but ran forever. Not the best MPG, I got 25 on the way home from getting it (75mph), but highway at 65, about 20. I'd rank Chevy higher on the reliability scale though, nothing scientific, just my thought. Seems most people now do get the little SUV type things instead. One in my family got a new full size Ford van. My next road vehicle will probably be either an Equinox or Escape, to go along with a newer Ram diesel.

If you believe in free market capitalism then it's the only answer. Why should someone have to pay more for an inferior product just to support union workers and a big business? And we should probably avoid the whole "percentage of the vehicle that's actually made in the US" issue...
