Tractor will not Start?

After using the PTO for the first time, shutting down and then attempting to start the tractor up right away again it would not start. Checked PTO switch, all fuses and safety switches and battery. All Good. The filters are all clean and fluids are good and there is no indication of any leaks. When turn the key on all the indicators are fine with no obvious warning indicators or anything. But, when depressing the spring key to start nothing happens. No cranking or sound. Nothing. As if there is no battery or line connected to the starter. It's a brand new tractor and the dealer is stumped himself.

Any suggestions or input on this would be appreciated.

Thank You.

if it is a new tractor i would make sure pto is not still engaged, again.seems like it could be neutral safety switch or something electronic that is on or supposed to be on.what kind of tractor are we talking here?

Sounds like a safety switch is bad,or maybe starter bad. Have you hooked a jumper battery to see if bad battery?Bad solinoid, bad ignition switch, maybe PTO switch bad.Just have to start tracing it down.If it is new is the dealer not going to find out whats wrong?

Hard ti help you help your self if we have to guess what tractor you have. Th fix will not always be a one way fits all so lack of info makes it impossible to help you

When New Holland was making the 2120 compact tractors we got a lot of calls about tractors not starting after using the PTO. Turns out on those tractors that when you pushed the lever back to disengage the PTO the lever would travel back far enough to go past the safety switch. Simply moving the handle forward a fraction of an inch would make contact with the safety switch and start fine.

Okay guys,

Thanks. Good replies. Let's get to more explanations I neglected.

This is a new LS 4046 HST tractor delivered from upstate about 600 miles away. So, I am pretty much on my own here. I went through the manual troubleshooting and got no results.

All fuses are checked good. Fuel good. Oil good. Hydraulic fluid good. Hydro pedals actuator switch look good. No loose fittings or electric connections or whatever. No broken wires to see. No leaks anywhere. Battery good.

I'm not sure what mhb@ufe meant about the PTO lever. Can you explain that better. Could be a possible.

Anyway, thanks everyone. Keep responding. I'm sure someone will come to the rescue.

I had a feeling that it was one of those LS 4046 HSTs. They have been known for this problem.

Are you using a multimeter to verify continuity on all your safety switches? If all indicate a closed circuit then you need to look elsewhere. If this tractor(that I am not familiar with) has an ecm to control things you MAY need a diagnostic manual specific to your tractor. If power to the solenoid is routed thru all the safety switches, check for voltage at the starter solenoid (small wire) while trying to crank. Make sure you still also have battery voltage at starter(large cable) while trying to crank.
If the ecm controls things, like cranking, then there may be relays involved-maybe 2, 1 to create a ground for another crank relay. Then you need a manual or wiring diagram at least. Good luck-let us know what you find.Mark

Okay Mark,

Dealer is going to call me tomorrow. Let's see if he can fix this
"common problem" he neglected to mention to me.

I will let this forum know what this turns out to be.

Wiring stuff not available to me at the moment.

Thanks.

have you tried the pto selector switch in all the
positions? it should start in the center position
but the labels were mismarked on the montana
equivalent. the switch also sometimes doesnt center
itself just wiggle it a bit.

if it is brand new, tell the dealer to bring you out a new one and some discounts for oil or what ever for putting you thru that after paying $$$$ for a dependable new one, don't forget to mention how many hours you lost in the field because of the inferior product he sold/pawned on you. just saying
