Anybody got any ideas on a repair or replacement for the universal joint on a 420 slant steer just above the gas tank at the dash. Mine is shot and i found one NOS on ebay and another rebuilt and the price is unbelievably high. More than I gave for the tractor. THe NOS one is like $750. I heard there was someone who rebuilt them and I heard there was a substitute using a univeral joint on a 4 wheeler. I hate to call a salvage yard because I am going to get a used one and have the feeling they are going to jack me on the price.

This place has the standard repair kits. If you measure yours, might can match it up.

On my 435 I just looked at a junk-yard and found something close from a little car. I welded it in. We have also used 1/2 universals from a 1/2 in socket set. (walmart) Welded them in to 1/2 in water pipe. This is on pulling tractors, where you don't put over 10 hrs in a life time. Vic
