well had everything back together had it smoking when it slowly turned over and finished putting it back together then tried to pull start it and nothing not even pop so we left it at the neighbors house he looked at it and I came down this morning and he said I had a bad head gasket or cracked head so will have to pull the hood and the hood and head again atleast I don't have to take the oil pan off this time

Sounds like a pretty serious diagnosis for an overhauled engine that has not even been started!

BEFORE tearing anything apart, surf on down to the "N" Board and run all the details past the EXPERTS there.

thank you bob I did not do a complete overhaul just one new sleeve and all new rings and fixed where there was pitting between two valves with jb weld and flattened it out

The jb weld was between the valves away from the combustion. The head was not shaved this is a flat head engine

The JB weld is still in an area exposed to burning fuel air mix. It Won't hold.

Ryan,

It should start even with a head issue, just not run on all cylinders. How does it crank over if you wrench it by hand?

I am remembering this is a flat head. Is the JB weld on the block or the head?

Experts?
I guess if putting points in a front mount qualifies you as an expert.
Beyond that I don't think the knowledge base is very wide or deep over there.
