Would an older fella----69--enjoy the Iowa State fair---have 8 tractors and from Michigan--passing thru?????????????????

My opinion, but the Iowa State fair is not so much about Iowa anymore. It seems to be more about Des Moines and big city ways. Used to be huge displays of farm equipment from ALL the manufacturers. Now, about the only tractors you will see are the restoration projects of the 4H and FFA members, which is good, because those young folks do a very good job of restoring grandpa's tractor.

Still there is plenty to do and see, but there is a LOT of walking involved, and walking is the ONLY way to see all of it. To do it right, get there early, and plan on spending the entire day.

Check the fair's website to best determine if there are things that would interest you.

At state fairs the non-vendor/non-commercial displays are usually outstanding. Livestock, 4-H & FFA projects, crafts, food, midway, shows, events, etc are still popular for both rural and urban fair visitors.

Plan ahead to reduce your walking, wear comfortable shoes. Get there early to park closer, avoid crowds and heat.

Senior Citizens Day is Wednesday Aug. 13. Our tractor club has had a display on the Grand Concourse right in front of the Grandstand on that day for 24 years.Looking for 85 tractors this year. There are plenty of livestock exhibits, Large farm machinery also. As mentioned, the FFA and 4-H tractor displays are great also. Good place to sit and watch people of all kinds.

(quoted from post at 13:48:59 07/24/14) Yeah, that and how much they can charge you for food, parking, etc...

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that you can no longer see the fair, unless you peek through all those food stands. Each one selling something "on a stick"
