OT More boat trouble

I replaced the battery today, put the water muffs on, popped right off, then temperature kept climbing, shut it down at 195.

It sounds like I may have a bad input water pump. The mercruiser has 2 pumps, one to suck it up from the lake, and one to circulate. I am just going to take it to the dealer.

That's an easy pump to change. Been a few years, I guess they haven't changed that much. Just drop the lower unit, and there it is. I always replaced the whole pump. The gearcase seals are in the lower pump housing, when the pump fails the plastic melts and won't hold the seals tight. There is an oil passage between the upper and lower housing, be sure to top up the oil when done.

The pump on the front of the engine is just a circulation pump. Don't recall ever having to replace one.

There is also a water hose between the sterndrive and the intermediate housing. Be sure it is intact.

Have not been there for a couple of years, so Iowa water did it in. This is one of those items I should have kept an eye on. MercCruiser recommends every 100 hours or 3 years, I am at 10 years and 100 hours.
