Very rarely get a second cutting here. Still have 100 acres of grass to drop yet, but wanted to get this before it turned back on itself.

Wheat is looking strong too.

Had to have been that late snow in May.

What are your temps like? We had heat index of 112 today and it felt like it. I didn't drop any hay as there is a chance of rain tonight. Tomorrow I will be dropping as much as I can feed through the moco.
 
90s to low 100s. No rain please, I've got 400+ acres of wheat ready to go in a day or two.

That's why I cut the alfalfa; before it turns on itself.

Nice looking field. I cut and bale bermuda, have not experiance with alfalfa. What do you mean by "turns on itself"?

Glad your wheat is looking good. Just read today that Kansas had its lowest wheat numbers since 1989. It is the first time I have had the rotary mower and combine in the same field running side by side. The ragweed was taller than the hood on the 4440. I'm still waiting to see how the soybean stand in it will be. A little hard to get a planter to do a decent job in that kind of stumps.
 
When alfalfa runs out of moisture, the crown starts pulling back out of the leaves and stems to save the root.

Hey Allan - I am from Central Ks but am spending a couple of days in Chadran and Clinton, Ne. Where are you from there? Working on a couple of grain elevators. I have never seen brome look as good as it does here right now. Bob
 
How is the wheat in your area Allan? We have been cutting since last Thursday here in Western South Dakota. (50 miles west of Pierre) The first 300+ acre field yielded 68.19 bu/acre, hauled to town! That is unreal for us. Had a 72 bu/acre yield on a field years ago. The next 100 went 66 bu/acre. There is going to be LOTS of wheat around here this year. Heard that the wheat south was pretty bad.
