Where can you send them for older balers??? Many dealerships do not do it any more. Is there any places like you send a magneto to???

A knotter is not removeable like a mag or carburator...They need to stay on the baler.A baler knotter doesnt change. The old ones are the same as the newer ones.As far as not wanting to service 'old' balers.FIND ANOTHER DEALER!!!!They are just being lazy(or have no one qualified to do the work). All those guys want to do is sell you a new baler. They are the guys who wont talk to a 'little guy'.They cater to the BTFO.You can do it yourself.Spend a day and do it.Get parts, service and owners manuals, read them and get after it! Good luck!

Just to add one more thing to Delta Red's advice - - New Holland has an excellent youtube that explains how a knotter works. It's an old training video that was used by NH many years ago.

I've found it to be very helpful in understanding the functions of the various components in the knotter.

If you haven't seen it, you might want to search "baler knotter" or some such thing in youtube.

There might not be anybody at the dealer who can. RayP had somebody out from the dealer a couple of years ago to work on his and he said the guy was probably 70 years old. About like getting the Deere dealer to work on a 2 cylinder anymore I'd think.

I chucked a couple brand new ones in the scrap bin a while ago.
Had them advertized for years free for the taking,..no takers.
Same with the baler (NH 68 )..... to the scrapyard it went.
Too bad.

And the guy knew his way around a baler. What I learned alone was worth the cost of the service call. Not to mention that the baler has been knocking em off with practically no problems. Baled 90 bales in less than hour the other day with nary a failure. His name is Shorty from Tillman Hardware in Beal City, Michigan.

I changed out the knotter on my JD336. Bought used from another 336. Works as good as new. I spent 1 hour getting it out (to make sure I knew how) 2 hours putting it in and timing it. Anything on a baler can be replaced. Anything, including frame parts.

Small square balers are getting to be yesterday's news for a lot of dealers. The Mennonites have moved into support for a lot of older products and I know of one that specializes in JD balers. Depending on the tractor make I would check the classifieds for the magazine that specializes in a given brand such as Green Magazine for JD or Red Power for IH on the magneto.

Amish outfit that does a lot of work on NH balers. I am sure you could mail them down to them and have them go over them for you.

I rebuilt my knotters last year and I knew nothing about them previously. I just found the manual and studied it and away I went. It wasn't nearly as hard as it looks.
