Looking at some Danner work boots. My last pair of Redwings just did not last a year and where the most uncomfortable boots I have ever owned. So I am shopping around for different foot wear. I saw some Danner boots that look like I wear.

I had Danners, but the last two pair have been Carolina. I am getting two years from the Carolina and one year from the Danner.

Still stickin' with my Red Wings. Never had anything as good. Tried Carolina's one time about 30 years ago and was not happy. They had a synthetic welt that came apart.

Nicks or Whites out of Spokane Wa. The pair I replaced last year were Nicks I bought in 95'. Had them resoled twice, rebuilt once. Figure I was into them for an average of $35 per year over that time. Used nearly daily as a shop/ag teacher and farming in the summers.

The last 2 pairs I have had were CARHARTT pull on boots. Very comfortable. First pair lasted almost 2 years. I am hard on boots with irrigation all summer and snow in winter. Always from wet to dry, that being hard on them. Only mink oil when new.

all i can say is i used to be a carpenter and all of my peers and bosses had a pair of the most expensive guaranteed to be comfortable steel toed boots/shoes that money could buy in the back of the floor of the truck that they were willing to give away for free. i finally found a sucker to take mine. :)

Danner is a premium boot. I owned a pair of heavy Danner hiking boots twenty years ago. I bought them because they were made in the US and because REI carried them in narrow widths. It took two years of hiking in southern California to get them broken in, but after that they were great boots. I would still have them, but my wife was cleaning out the basement and decided I didn't need a pair of two hundred dollar hiking boots.

After Many years of Red Wings, I ran into a problem. Not their fault, my feet had gotten wider. Their fix didn't work, so I had to go looking and I found Keen. They are not US made, but I am super happy with them, and it looks like they will last or a very long time.

I"ve wore a pair of Danner High tops work boots/
shoes. The very best shoe I"ve ever had. I work
in mud/oil & cow poop everyday. The soles are
smooth & last winter I get a 150.00 gift card
from my boss for the Boot Box in Meadville Pa.
for Christmas. I thought it"s time for another
pair of Danners. I know this current pair is at
5 years old & maybe 6? I tried & looked at
every pair the store had. Apparently the type
I wore is no longer in production, broken
hearted none of them felt good on my feet. I
left with a pair of Carolina"s. I still wear the
Danner boot when it"s dry, this year hasn"t been
dry at all..

JDSeller, I don't know if you wear lace up or slip on boots....but.....

I wear slip on boots, and Redwing makes a pair of slipons that are the best dang boot I have ever had. I am wearing my second pair, and have a third ordered so I can send these in to be resoled.

These have a polyurethane coating on the sole, the sole lasts a long time. This current pair I have wore for 16 months, and still going good. They are about $250/pair, but well worth it. New insoles every two to three months.

They say PECOS on the boot straps. Id look into them.

I have been wearing Danner Quarry's for 10 years (3 pairs) and really like the boot. I treat them like crap, and they take a beating at work. I had Redwings before that, and they never lasted as long as the Danners do (Danners last me about 3X as long). Back then, redwing made a crappy boot, but I hear that the Redwings are better quality again.

Danner just moved production/assembly of the Quarry back to the USA, so you can buy a boot "assembled" in the USA. I was upset about that when I bought my last pair, so I am glad they are figuring that out.

As long as they keep the Quarry design, I'll keep buying them.

Carolinas are some of the best. They will last 3 times longer than Redwings. This was counting Redwings that were made 30 years ago when they were supposed to be good.

I've got 3 pairs of em. They tend to run narrow, so keep that in mind. Tough to find a better boot but they are pricey. Check the label, most of the premium stitch down style are made in usa, the glue down style mostly china.

Well there you have it JD Seller.........after all the above replies you can now inconclusively make a good decision. Isn't it nice when everybody agrees?

If I were you I'd go to a Red Wing store to make my purchase. I'd carry those boots that were crap along with you. Tell them that it needs to be made right.
You can negotiate with them on price too. It's amazing what they'll take off the price.

I am on my 3rd pair of lace-ups.

My employer provides us with work boots that have to be steel toed. One of the vendors is red wing; I think everyone in the shop wears them. We are a truck repair ,and are on our feet all day.I like mine so much that I have a pair at home too. We get a new pair every year and after a year on concrete the insoles are smashed ,less support so I'm ready for a new pair even tho the shoe still looks good.Good luck, let us know how you like the danner boots if you choose them. Mark
PS I saw some winter work rubber boots at tractor supply last spring that looked good to me, but I forget the name ,was wondering if anyone wears them, but I can't remember the name!!

I wore Redwings for 30 years. Then they went to Chinese construction for the model I liked. I now have Danners, because they are made locally. I did have to make sure I got the American ones, because they do Chinese too.
