burning barrels?

We have only had ours a year. Best thing we finally added to the property!I paid $20.00,from a neighbor, how much was yours?

Years ago my dad had a batch of those blue plastic barrels he was selling for $2 each. Sold one to a lady that didn't say what she was going to use it for. She came back in a few days wanting her money back because it melted the first time she tried to burn her trash. My dad just told her he was sorry and refunded her $2. He said it would be worth it to him the first time she told somebody the story.

Yesterday a business place had 3 STEEL ones looked like new for $5 each. Was driving the car not the truck, no way to haul them. I paid $15 for one a couple months ago. As to how long they last, mine last several years but it depends how often you burn and how hot you get it.

Burn barrels have been banned here for several years. Miss mine as I could get rid of lots of paper. Sometimes after use of them was banned it was surprising how you could put stuff in the barrel and they would spontaneously combust, or lightning. Nearly knocked the matches out of my hand.

They will last years if you empty them once in a while. The ash and unburned stuff will collect and hold water, and they rust out quicker.

I don't know, but he has 20,so you can burn at least 20 times. At that price what do you have to loose? LOL

Just kind of depends on the barrel. Some are pretty thin. My son brings me some from work. they are pretty thin and don't last very long, but they are free so it doesn't really matter.

Before they were banned here, I would drill a few half inch holes in the bottom and set them on bricks. This would eliminate a lot of smoldering and let water drain out.

Same thing would happen to the trash trucks picking up your full burn barrels. Recently a trash truck made the local new. It had to dump it's load on the road because it caught on fire.

I cut both ends out and put them over a hole I dig. Then I burn a 6-8 holes around the side about 1/3 way up and push some rerod through. The stuff burns and drops to hole, hole gets full, cover up and move to new hole.

We used to have one, but it simply is easier to throw stuff away. And since we don't get newspapers or magazines delivered anymore, we don't have that much to get rid of. Most of our stuff is online now.

Surely that's a joke. The tub from a wringer washing machine makes the best burn barrel I have seen. Good for burning plastic hay strings, and net wrap.

Fourty years ago, a cattle panel formed into a circle made a good burn ring. Around here burn barrels have gone the way of the out-house, they bother the owners and neighbors more than they are worth.

A local city collects and resells newspapers, cans and glass. They also collect almost anything compost-able, turn it into compost, bag it and ship out two to three semi trailer loads a day for $2 per 40 pound bag. They turn $250K to $1 million in profits per year. The service has expanded to the townships.

as some have said, someway to keep them off the ground so they can drain extends the life . I use an old tire rim , works for me. as to putting holes in the barrel, depends, some of mine are .22 inches and some are.30 or .38 inches depends on what I'm carrying that day. joe

Blue plastic barrel for burning trash in? How long would one last? My guess, forever. I'm not real good at guessing sometimes though.

Is a gal down the road that uses them in one of her pastures to practice barrel racing with her horses. They work pretty good for that. I've never seen her try to burn anything in them though.

Open burning barrels are outlawed here(they've started to many brush and grass fires) I build myself this one last spring from 2 dual tractor rims welded together,It's got a big hinged lid and a smoke stack with spark arrester . the bottom is open so when it gets full of ashes i can just tip it over and scoop it up with the loader.
