Another dreaded job half done

The Field Boss won't be going to the field for a day or two. I sure wasn't looking forward to pulling the engine and Over/Under Hydraul Shift out of this thing, but it had to be done. The pump is getting weak and the shift pressure is low.
I've gone as far as I'm going on it though,I'll take the unit to the dealer Monday so they can do it right. I sure don't want to have to do this job again! Getting it all back in there won't be any picnic. That 478 Hercules has to be one of heaviest engines ever built. What a monstrosity!

I did that with our 2-180 White Field Boss several years back. There was a check valve in the over/under stuck. That was a challenge to get that cat 3208 out and back in there.....

Put a new pump in it while we had it apart too, it was about $700 from agco if I recall, this was about 2006.

Good luck

I put a new relief valve and spring in it and shimmed the heck out of the spring, just couldn't get the pressure up at low rpms. She worked OK as long as the speed was up. The lube pressure was good, but I was tired of playing guessing games. It had to be done before some real damage happened,if it hasn't already.

I wouldn't go so far as to say "know how". I just took off everything that looked like it was in the way. lol

Got any Meadow green left over? LOL
Best of luck with it, I hope it doesn't cost a mint!

Where do you take it to? I have had Hofferbert's in Bannister do the work to my 3 speeds in the past. Always did a good job. Bruce, the father passed away in December I think, but the son, Bruce Jr. is still doing work out of there and he was one of the mechanics when I was in and out of there.

Ya,that's where I'm taking it. Most everything I have is a brand that they sell and service.

I just finished replacing a broken shift rail in a 2-105. After I got as far as you went I still had to remove the cab, hitch cover, and transmission cover. It almost makes you think there might have been a better way to design them.

If that had happened, that thing would have been on a truck headed out for somebody else to do it. The only one I ever broke so far, thank God,was in the 1550. That one wasn't too bad. I just had to take the top off the transmission/rearend.

Hey Randy...I have the same problem with a my 706.11,00 hrs and the MCV seems to be getting weak. The 'tellite' comes on at low rpw and the steering gets 'jumpy'.Need to replace BEFORE it wipes out the TA.....

wow !!! looking good, you were saying ya gotta get er done and bam, you already got the motor ready to go to the shop. just remember to keep telling yourself when your putting it back together, "well, it came apart easy" :)

At least on the IH you can replace the pump after only removing the MCV. It's only about a three hour job including going through the MCV when you have it off.
