Tha'ts different then we see locally, what does one like that weigh field dressed or not ? Also what age, 5 years or mid life maybe? Interesting to see whitetail bucks from other places. How about the area and terrain, lot to pack out if in a remote area, we are spoiled in that regard, I'll use the tractor or similar LOL !

Its mostly for meat around here anyway, so most of us do just that, but its cool to see an unusual one, and they do pass through, we had some piebald ones, I left them alone, was cool to see them, one decent 8pt buck. I try and pass on small bucks, fill the one doe tag or more if they are available. I'm not even sure with lush forage high in minerals at the right time of year we'd ever see one of those ! Congrats, sure was one healthy buck !

This buck was killed in Robertson Co. TX. I killed this buck late bow season with a Cross Bow. I hunted every day for this buck. He was so old and smart. He was nocturnal. He would come into feeder after dark and stay until 4 or 5 AM. One day it was raining all day and I figured I go hunting anyway. The Buck came out right before dark and I got him. 20 yard shot. Sometimes you need to change up your routine. Most of the time I wouldn't have gone hunting if it was raining.

That is what it takes, this place is a perfect environment for whitetail, and though what I don't see, there is more to it, as sometimes the rubs are indicating the opposite of what you see or think.

The best bucks taken here over the 30 years I've hunted it, were all inclement weather days, when you least expect it or you had just sit all day before sunrise til dusk. Its mostly still hunting though in the snow you may find a tired buck dragging a hoof, you'll be hard pressed to stalk a smart one. I have gotten close to smaller ones with a compound bow, and a long time friend did the unthinkable one afternoon, stalked and took one in the middle of the field, conditions had to be just right, I watched it from start to finish, I'd not have believed it if I did not see it myself, wish I had film of that.

Nice one for sure, those big bucks get big by being very careful.I shot one that weighed 230lbs last year that was very wary of coming out and feeding where 15 or so other deer came and fed every afternoon. Most of the Big bucks I've killed have been just before dark.

nice buck.
ya grow some serious antlers out there.
Always interesting to see the differences in deer from different areas.
Even close. My camp is 110 miles from my home.
harsh weather at both locations.
camp area, very steep, rocky, not much food. lots of deer, but they are smaller, but with huge hindquarter muscle from the hills.
At home, flat. Grain, vegetable and fruit farms everywhere, deer are as big as cows.

I've definately killed more deer on the tail end of the season in poor weather conditions. When the weather gets cruddy, most hunters stay home and the deer know it.

Nice Buck!

That is a very nice deer...........For Texas!!

Naw, no, I didn't mean that, I just couldn't resist!!! :D

I've never killed one that nice up here in MO. Just wanted to razz you a bit.

Your exactly right I've killed more big bucks right before dark. These big bucks let there guard down a little during rut. Sorta like us

Me too Don. Deer know your hunting Pattern. Sometimes you need to change it up a little. Too much hunting pressure can hurt you too.
