O.T. semi reefer trailer question.

Does anyone on here know the deck height of a reefer trailer?. The neighboring old order Amish are building a produce warehouse and want to know how high to build the loading dock.

dock height should be around 4'. trailers vary a little depending on if they are spring ride or air ride since the air ride trailers dump the air when the brakes are set. I checked 2 trailers next to mine and mine and they are 48", 49" and 50".

Not all air ride trailers have dumps and many have stops that only allow them to drop a certain distance. I have pulled a reefer for years and haul eggs from farms. Many of the chicken houses I have to drop lower than normal in order to load. My suggestion would be to visit a larger warehouse nearby and measure their dock. I don't remember what the standard dock height is.

I would say jon is right on. Reefers always seemed a little taller floorwise to me, but that may just be the grooved floor for washouts. Dock plate will take care of a few inches either way. I would like to have a dollar for every time I bumped a dock.

Standard for dock seems to be 48". Trailers vary by a few inches either way.

In your friends case I'd have him wait and build the dock to fit his trailer as it sounds like it won't be moved often.

Measured 2 of the reefers we have backed in right now. Both unloaded are at 49", give or take 1/2 inch, at the deck. Regular trailers I have here now are at 48" Our docks all measure 49", all 17 of them. Other 8 docks are at 52", ground was dug out some for container trailers.

(quoted from post at 08:08:09 07/11/14) I would say jon is right on. Reefers always seemed a little taller floorwise to me, but that may just be the grooved floor for washouts. Dock plate will take care of a few inches either way. I would like to have a dollar for every time I bumped a dock.

The grooved floor provides an air return for the reefer.

Yeah, I know you are right, I just tend to remember the nasty parts of the job. I have ended up having to do the washouts myself more than once in some unusual circumstances. I never liked pulling a reefer anyway.
