I've never seen a brown squirrel with a white tail before. Googled it and they are suppose to live out West, not where I live in W. Centeral Indiana. Hope to shoot it with a camera and post pic.

We have one at our acreage in east central Iowa. I had never seen one either but this one is real. I have seen it twice and my wife once.

How far ar you from Olney, Illinois? Maybe one of their white squirrels jumped the fence and mixed with those in your neighborhood.

In Onley,Illinois the white squirrel am a protected species.>You could get more time in the Big House killing one of them than you would if yo shot your Muther in Law.

We saw one last Wednesday near Versailles, Indiana too. We watched it for about 10 minutes before we had to leave. That is the first I have seen in this neck of the woods. I have seen several in our travels out west.

Back when I was in high school, one family spent winters in AZ. There are squirrels north of the Grand Canyon that have dark grey bodies (almost black) with white tails. That family had someone trap some of those squirrels and they brought them back to our ND town and turned them loose. I think almost all the squirrels in town had white tails in a few years.

protected squirrels, what is this world coming to ? out here in ca they are a nuisance, they are like Doritos, shoot all ya want, we'll make more. if they outlawed them out here, half the state would get sent up the river.

Marysville, Kansas claims to be black squirrel city, complete with the signs that announce it as you hit the city limit. I would say that over 50% of the squirrels in that town are all black. If you drive over a black squirrel in that town and don't report doing so, there is a law on the books that allow the cops to write you up for a ticket.

We've had white squirrels, just south of Dallas/Ft. Worth area, for about 5 years now. Must be a dominant gene, they seem to be gaining population and are slightly bigger than the brown ones. Thinking they are albinos, their eyes are lighter, somewhat pink.

Saw lots of black squirrels out it the "Hill Country", south central to east Texas.

Harey2, are you from Olney, Illinois? I went to trade school in Indianapolis with 2 guys from there back in 1973. I did not keep track of them and regret it to this day. They were buddies and one of them looked like the Marlboro Man from the cigarette ads. Mark

there is a little town in Ohio that is full of them, along Rt 49 I think somewhere around Coldwater

No sir i'm not from thar, I have traveled thru that part of the country more times than I can count.
Tanks for asking.
