Ivan Stoltzfus and Johnabilt Wounded Warriors Project

There have been a couple of postings here on this forum about Ivan Stoltzfus and his driving an antique John Deere A across the United States in an attempt to raise funds for the Wounded Warrior Project.

I met him when he was in the Quad Cities area, in Illinois and took several pictures of him and his tractor which he has named Johnabilt because it has a 1984 Peterbilt cab installed to keep him out of the weather.

I am finding it a little frustrating to find details about his daily life on the road, as it seems his web site blog is not updated daily, and contains no writings of people who meet him.

When he was in the Quad Cities, his web site said he was going to be here for a few days, so, it was expected when the tracking map showed him not moving around much while he was here.

But up until this morning, he has been in a small town in western Iowa for several days, and I cannot find anything to indicate whether this was a planned prolonged stay or maybe if there was something wrong.

It stands to reason that there are probably members of this group who are close to Le Mars, Iowa and have met him and know whether this was a planned longer term stop.

Right now, the tracker map shows him moving, he is only a few miles from the South Dakota border, he will be there shortly.

I do not see the possibility of continued chatting about him happening on this group, but, I do propose an email group where any member could post messages about Ivan and his effort.

Some of you may not be familiar with email groups, they are simply a group of members who can each send an email message to the one group address, and every member of the group receives a copy of that message in an email, that looks like the message was sent to the recipient only.

I set up such a group a few days ago, but, I have not publicized it until now, hopefully some of you will take a look, and maybe join. All messages will be about Ivan and his attempt to cross America in that John Deere tractor.

When I knew he was approaching the Quad Cities, I looked for such a group, I had hopes that there was a group where I could read what folks had to say who had talked to him recently, and could tell us more than what was on his web site.

I found no such group.

The group I started is at: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/helpamericanheroes/info

You can join by sending a blank email, nothing in the subject line, nothing in the body, to:

[email protected] You will receive a confirmation email from Yahoogroups that you will need to reply to, it might go into your spam folder (some software regards it as spam, so you need to check if you don't see the confirmation message right away).

Update: Right now at 10:00 AM Central , he appears to be stopped at a Caseys gas station, only a few hundred feet from the South Dakota border.

That would probably be either the Casey's in Riverside or the one in Akron IA. Probably the one in Akron if he is coming from LeMars. What part is he looking for?

Checked his tracker map. At 1:09 PM Sunday he was stopped in open country at the intersection of Hwy 367 and Hwy 50 one half mile south of Gaville or Gavelle, South Dakota. His website has said he has had multiple flats on the camper trailer. He would have to be carrying spare parts or have made a backup plan for breakdowns on a long trip like this. His website is really slow to give updates on his progress. Thanks for those pictures from Illinois.

See, your comments are exactly what I am talking about, the casual observer, like myself, cannot find these things out.

But, if there was a venue, just for those who wanted to follow his efforts, it would be great.

I don't care if it eventually becomes my email group, but, a method should exist somewhere, and if it does, I would like to know about it, so that I can keep up with the progress.

Johnabilt is stationary - ignition off at intersection of Bill Baggs Road and Hwy 50, So Dakota. Appears to be parked for the evening very near or in a large blue paint machinery dealer's lot. Can't identify the town due to computer glitch but he must be near a suburban/industrial area. His tracker says last movement was 3:27 PM.

He does have many sponsors for his trip.. he has people working from his home base , and several folks out there donating oil changes, and help with Maint on the old "A"

I spoke with his daughter.. very nice woman..
Ivan"s health is holding well.. He is very tired, but forces himself do do media interviews , but you can tell he is worn from a days journey..
He would feel better if he could just shower , and be able to meet the folks the next day.. He did run into some bad weather twice Ill. And where he was this past week .. they got he and Johnnabuilt under roof both occasions.. He oves it when he get"s those bikers, and tractors all decked out to ride with him .. Other than that he is just a loner out there plugging along..
They don"t really have plans as they go but would like to stay somewhat close to the planned route
His home state wasn"t even going to let him cross, he got little attention from us , and I"m so ashamed.. he did get some recognition, but he had a police escort every time he moved, and the cops weren"t letting traffic build up to support him.. This is a couple pics I got from the roadside as he passed me .( notice trooper car on his bumper )

Those that use Face book can have a live chat with him tomorrow night at 8 PM for Q&A session
It wont let me post a link here .
