i mowed some more grass for silage this week... My son took some photos. I thought you might like to see how we cut silage in Northern Ireland?.....this is the flat ground that the microlight runway is in......

And this is the steep hill!
mvphoto7540.jpg

This hill is not as steep....I can mow it across the hill
mvphoto7541.jpg

The crop is very heavy and a week late due to showery weather!

One of the three 16 tonne trailers for hauling the grass...

mvphoto7545.jpg

lifting the last field....around 6.00pm
mvphoto7546.jpg

30 foot swathes use up a bit of horse power!...
mvphoto7547.jpg

As one trailer leaves another arrives......
mvphoto7548.jpg

While the third one is being filled......
mvphoto7549.jpg

Dumping at the clamp is fast with auto opening tailgates.....
mvphoto7550.jpg

mvphoto7551.jpg

Three pushes with the shovel clears the 16 tonnes away!
mvphoto7552.jpg

My two sons rolled the clamp with two tractors from 7.00 pm until 9.00 pm and we had the clamp covered and sealed with polythene before midnight!......Job done!.......Sam

Very interesting, nice heavy crop of silage. you are a couple of weeks ahead of here in Nova Scotia on the east coast of Canada. cheers, Murray

What kind of grass in first picture. We have fescue's, orchardgrass, timothy sometimes smooth bromegrass. Do you have these same varieties over there. Our horse people go for the timothy. There is few old stands brome here and it goes fast if a buyer finds out you have any for hay.
It's scarce.

Our grass mixture is timothy, meadow fescues,Italian ryegrass and some cocksfoot.........Sam
