O/T Lawn Mower Guys

I have a B & S 190 cc series 675 mower. It worked fine when I first started mowing but it started to not stay running. It starts on the first pull, but it seems like it doesn't get up to the top rpms. It kind of fades in and out as far a revs go. Gas is fresh. Any thoughts what to check?

Check the gas flow from your tank to the carburetor. Also look for an inline fuel filter that may need replacing. If that carb has a main jet adjusting screw you need to open it. Also pull off a plug wire when it quits running and check for fire to your plug or plugs. Hal

Larry,

Make sure your carb is tight where it bolts on to the engine and same goes for the intake manifold if it has one like on 2 cylinder engines. Make sure your air cleaner is clean. I'm not sure what engine you exactly have but a bad front or rear main crankshaft seal can do what you're describing but it would make is smoke blue smoke a bit and get worse.

I was talking with a fella about lawn mowers found on the curb. He said "You know how they will run wide open full choke but no power. What you do is get it running wide open then take a plastic bag and put it over the carb and choke it off. That sucks the crud out of the jets." I have tried it and it works.

Thank you everyone. It turned out to be a dirty air filter. You guys saved me a lot of money at the repair shop.

I got a WONDERFUL buy on a Cub Cadet 1450, 14 HP
Hydro., $200. I was going to use it for parts, until I found that the intake air filter element
was completely plugged with dirt, and grass. I
replaced the filter, changed the oil, and it
runs like new!
