dehumidifiers are junk

Bought 2 sears kenmore dehumidifiers both lasted 2 yrs and bit the dust. I only use in summer months. The last one fan runs, getting suction in the front so fan runs, but no water coming out of cellar. Tore apart and there is no place to put in r410a gas. They want them to be thrown away every couple yrs. Im guessing its out of freon and was thinking of a recharging kit, but a 100 dollar investment mite be a waste of money. Ordered new dehumidifier from wally world &3yr warranty.

I agree. I have nothing but trouble with them since the compressors say made in china on them.
I hope someone starts making a decent one again. The really old one I found to use can't last forever either.
There was a recall on a bunch of this off shore junk all made by same place but sold under different names. These ones were starting fires !
I did get my money back on one of these.

The best thing you could do is find one that is about 20 years old at a garage sale. It will such down more power but it will outlive you...

I have a Danby, made north of the border, runs a lot and has been trouble free for just over for years now.

Just provide some ventilation to your cellar. Open a window or two, and buy a simple fan, to exaust the damp cellar air to outside. A cheap range hood and short duct, works good for me. Turn it on when the sun is shinning, and turn it off when it's raining.

Good thing there isn't a place for you to add gas. I find it hard to believe a dehumidifier uses 410A.

Back in the day, dehmidifiers used R12 which was replaced with 134a. I have some very old dehumidifers I gased up with 134 and they work fine.

I will agree, the new stuff is junk. I had a gold star after 10 years developed multiple leaks in the evaporator. When I scrapped it out, I found the copper was paper thin.

I opened 6 cellar windows when humidity is 45 or lower, but in the Pa. area, it dont stay there very long. the fan idea mite work if you could suck damp air out of a couple windows.

It really depends on where you live. In Indiana if you open the basement windows on a 90 degree day and high humidity you will have water on your 55 degree basement walls.

I have no choice, either air condition the whole house and run a dehumidifier in basement.

Don't be so fast to junk them. I have two (only run one at a time) but the first time I use them they make a lot of noise but don't make water. I shut them down, adjust the dryness level and try again and they work great. No idea why, but same story a few years in a row. My mostly in ground basement stays cool and wet even when we have blistering hot days in the summer.

I found an Oasis on Amazon that has worked well. Someone rated them highly and claimed the compressor is made in Finland or Poland, which makes a difference on how reliable they are.

Try that here and the condensation will be running down the basement walls and running across the floor.
Soil temp is 50F and ground water is even colder. Toilet tanks bead up with moisture unless the AC has had time to dry out the house.

Another place that you can get dehumidifiers is from abatix.com. They have a variety of options that are usually priced cheaper than some other brands out there. Here's one for example: ["http://www.abatix.com/default.aspx?page=item+detail&itemcode=DRIF203&catlist=87" DrizAir 1200 Dehumidifier F203]

heck your warranty, normally the sealed system, compressor, coils, etc. are 5 years.

Can I ask what dehumidifier do you have? We have moisture issue, we have attempted various things and tragically unless it never rains will dependably have a bit of dampness.
