OT - dryer question

We had to get a new dryer 6 months ago. It has already quit. Of course it has a warranty but no one will come out to the farm. I fixed it once - it was a thermofuse of some kind. That one lasted for three loads and it just died again.

Can I put an automotive style fuse in it - the spade kind? I wouldn't put one in so big that it wouldn't blow, but a regular 10 amp fuse ought to work, shouldn't it?

I think this piece of junk is a Maytag Cabrio or something. If I had a bonfire going it would be in there...

If it's a thermofuse, it's reading temperature more than amps. For some reason things are getting too hot, as in from the control circuit for the heating element is not cycling as it should, or there is a lack of air movement to distribute the heat.

No, it is not safe to replace it with anything other than what's recommended by the manufacturer. Could cause fire, will void the warranty!

If you're sure the vent is clear, this needs to be brought to the attention of the seller of maker, whoever is going to make the decision to warranty it, replace it, or give you a refund.

If it's a Cabrio, it's a Whirlpool, not Maytag. If it's a Whirlpool, call 1-866-698-2538.
If it's a Maytag, call 1-800-344-1274.
Have your model number and serial number.
If there's not an authorized service center in your area, they will send out the closest independent service guy and pay the bill.

Yep my vote is for vent blockages causing the dryer to overheat. Probably what got the last one too.

I used to buy thermal fuses at Radio Shack for a buck or two. Not sure if RS is still in business. The temperature rating of the fuse used to be determined by the color on the one end of fuse.

No other fuse will replace a thermal fuse. Sometimes the temp rating was stamped on the fuse.

Many are not fans of Lowes, however my last whirpool washer lost a bearing in 2 years. I purchased a 5 year extended waranty from Lowes. They come to the house in the country twice to repair it and finally gave me my money back because it would cost more to repair than it was worth.

Guess there is some benefit to Lowes. They also delivered, set it up and removed the bad one for FREE.

Where did you get yours?

The thermofuse is there to keep from burning down your house if there's a blockage in the dryer vent. I don't recommend you bypass it, but if you do don't go to sleep with the dryer running.

Mine quit heating one of the baffles on the vent was gone mommy bird decided it was a good place to nest .kicked her out and the vent tube was full i cleaned it and it runs good now . lucky i didnt have a fire

If it's under warranty, quit screwing around with it and MAKE the seller or maker comply with the warranty. If you keep messing with it you'll void the warranty and then you're hunka junk will be your problem and your's alone.

The consumer protection section of your attorney general's office would likely get you some action on the warranty. Maybe all you need to do is threaten to contact them to get them out to fix it. I think they sort of frown heavily on not honoring warranties.
